Fill in the Blank Text: I can't read all the answers

Seguir

I have fill in the blank questions for my students. They were supposed to write down their answers, and they had 500 word limit. However, the blank on the answers from students currently cuts off by the box, and I can't see rest of the answers. How do I change that?

    Hi, Ms. Moon.

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue.

We reported this behavior to the Engineering team, with a priority of Moderate Impact. This means that we understand tables within assessments are not working fully as intended, but prioritization of this issue is weighted against more urgent issues and other features we are developing.

Please let us know if there is new information about this issue that might change the priority. For example, the issue may impact more customers than you originally reported or affect an area of Schoology that makes this more urgent. If we missed something from you or hear back from other Schoology customers about this issue, and the priority changes, we’ll let you know.

Otherwise, we'll update you on this thread when the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience.

Has this been updated at all? I am having the same issue. Students who actually wrote a complete sentence have the "meat" of their answer cut off and there is no way for me to view what they typed. I had a 300 character limit set on all boxes, thought what I really needed was a way to combine the fill-in option and the longer answer options in the same question.

    Hello Ms. Collins-Zinda,

The Schoology Product and Support Teams have reviewed the details of this issue and it has been placed in our product backlog for further investigation and possible inclusion in a future software release. At this time, we are not able to provide an estimated resolution date.

As a workaround, my colleauge was able to access the full answers in Chrome by double clicking the response until all the text was selected, copying, then pasting elsewhere to view.  It's important to note that the Fill in the Bank Test question type is meant for auto-grading answers that match up exactly or very closely with the provided correct answers, and defaults to 40 characters for blanks. Increasing/decreasing the maximum characters adjusts the size of the response box only up to the point of about 50 characters.

It may be more beneficial to use the short answer/essay question type in the future for situations where students are responding freely and using more than 40-50 characters. On the short answer/essay question type, the teacher can choose a word limit and the box will continue to expand as the student types their answer so their full response will always be visible to the student (unlike in the fill in the blank where about 50 characters are visible at a time). For more information on each question type, please see the following:

Please let us know if you have any more questions.  We will be happy to assist you!

Thank you for this response. I had some difficulty setting up my question because it required both short and long answers together:

Based on experience with student test-taking skills, I KNOW that had I asked them to put all of that in a single large box, parts would be missing. So really, this was my workaround. Thank you very much for the workaround for my workaround :)

    Gratefully,

    Elisa
