Student Completion Rules

Seguir

When I set up a folder for my students using the Student Completion Rules and set it for "Requirements must be completed in sequential order" it very seldom works, and doesn't require the students to do the work in order.  It takes a great deal of fussing and to sometimes get it to work.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Is there a little step I am missing?  Thanks

    Hi Christopher,

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

Just to clarify, the sequential order is determined by the order within the Student Completion Rules and not the order the materials may be listed in the Materials page.

Can you please provide some more information about the behavior you're experiencing?

    For example:

    • Is it not working for some or all items?
    • Is it only working some of the time? Is the behavior sporadic?
    • Which types of rules are effected?

How do you ensure that the student completion rules are set up the way the teacher wants?

For instance, how do I ensure that students complete (or at least access) formative assessments and activities before attempting any summative assessment I may have in the folder?

    Hi Brandi,

You should be able to do this by enabling Requirements must be completed in sequential order

The materials will become available in the order that you set in Student Completion Rules.

Please see this Help Center article for further details about this.

I am having the same problem that Chris mentioned.  Has there been a solution to this? When I set up student completion for items and select that they are completed in sequential order it is not working.  Students can select any item they want to in any order.  I have used this is the past and never had trouble until this week.

I am having similar issues but also have students bypassing the rules somehow.  I have a lesson set up as view, view, must submit, view, view. I have students who never submit yet can progress though the folder?

Hey Chris, This was so frustrating and even a little more once I found the fix because it was so simple.  What worked for me was going into the materials for the class and then clicking student progress at the top and then recheck student progress.  Every once in a while I run into trouble and have to "recheck" and that seems to fix everything.   Hope this helps you out!

    Hi Christopher,

We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this must be causing.

The "recheck student progress" function that Paul is referring to can be found at the top of the Materials page and is not the same as editing the student completion rules.

Have you tried clicking Student Progress and then Recheck Student Progress at the bottom of the pop-up?

This will effectively "refresh" the progress and should resolve the discrepancies you're seeing.

The picture above was after I refreshed.  It still showed the student had viewed all materials and the submission was in progress.  Today they all say in progress so I guess its working??

I've had a similar, yet slightly different, problem.  I had three tasks, i checked the box for them to be completed sequentially.  The second task required students to score a specific score to move on.  However, I had 11 students who were able to move on to the third and final item without earning the required score on the previous task.

    Hi Christopher,

It seems that there was a delay in processing Recheck Student Progress requests due to the high volume of concurrent users.

I'm glad to hear that it's now functioning for you as expected.

    Hi Terri,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this behavior!

This issue has already been escalated to our Engineering team for further investigation.

We will update you here when the issue has been resolved.

this is happening for me and other teachers in my district as well. completion rules worked last week, but are not working this week. this really needs to be fixed very quickly, because the completion rules are a critical element of non-guided online learning.

I know it is summer now, but I was curious if this was ever resolved.

I used completion rules all through April and June, and mostly they worked well enough.

I noticed that some students were able to score below the completion rule on Assessments and still continue on. For differentiation purposes at the time, it was ok, but I would rather that the rule work as planned.

Also, if they need to "view" an item with a video, do they actually need to view the whole video, or just open the page and start the video to satisfy this rule?

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Florina,

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

There was a delay in processing "Recheck Student Progress" requests due to the high volume of concurrent users. However, that issue has been resolved.

If you are experiencing difficulty with Completion Rules, we suggest "Rechecking Student Progress" to make sure student progress is properly controlled.

In reference to "viewing" an item with a video, the students would need to start the video without watching the entire video to satisfy the rule.

If you continue to experience difficulty with completion rules, please reach out to your schools designated Support Contact for further assistance.
