Problems with embedded videos in pages

Seguir

I am having problems with videos that are embedded in pages.
They suddenly do noy play, and they seem to dissapear from the page when clicked.
This happens since yesterday, it's been months that I use this function without problems.
But now I have a lot of students trying to see the videos and they can't.
Can you help me please ?

Thanks, Vanesa

    Hi Vanesa,

Thank you for reporting this issue with embedded videos! Our Support team has confirmed that this is a defect and has escalated this issue to our Engineering team. Our team has confirmed that you can workaround the issue by we encourage you to embed links using the following steps:

    1. Navigate to your course
    2. Click Add Materials
    3. Select Add Page from the drop-down menu
    4. Click Insert Content from the Rich Text Editor
    5. Select Image/Media from the drop-down menu
    6. Select Media and type in the link/embed
    7. Click Insert Media
    8. Finish by clicking Create

This allows embedded videos to play from within Schoology. Alternatively, you can just add a regular link rather than an embed to your course. Students will have to navigate away from Schoology to view that content.

This issue has been escalated with a priority of Moderate Impact. This means that we understand the embedded links are not displaying intended, but prioritization of this issue is weighted against more urgent issues and other features we are developing. We encourage you to use the workarounds mentioned above.

Please let us know if there is new information about this issue that might change the priority. If we missed something from you or hear back from other Schoology customers about this issue, and the priority changes, we’ll let you know.

Otherwise, you’ll receive an update from us here when the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience.

This is happening to me (and a bunch of other teachers at my school) that are using it.   Although it is also an issue for ALL embedded stuff...   h5P, quizlets etc.

Same problem, especially for H5P content, which now no longer appears, or flags as content unavailable. We REALLY need a proper H5P LTI app.

Yimei Shao: Thank you very much for the solution !!! I could solve the problem this way. I had to change all pages with embedded videos but it's great to have them again embedded. First I had to put links to external vimeo videos and it was not good !

    thanks!! Vanesa

Has this been resolved yet? I am still having issues where most of my embeds are not working while a couple do.

How do I get video links that were embedded to work? I’ve had videos that just suddenly stopped working for my students. How do I fix this?

    Hi Lynda,

Is this occurring for all students across all browsers? Has there been a recent change in your school's firewall configuration?

I am able to get a video embedded, but the video won't load. I have tried embedding it through HTML and attaching the embed link. Neither of the ways actually load the video when pressed.

    Hi Nicole,

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.

Did you confirm you were using the supported file types as listed in this Help Guide?

Also, how are you adding the video to your course materials? Are you using the Insert Content feature in the Rich Text Editor?

Or are you adding links from the Add Materials > Add File/ Link/External Tool option in your course?

We recommend following the workflow found in this article to embed videos.

If the issue continues to persist, please reach out to your schools designated Support Contact for further assistance.

    Hi,

I am having a similar problem and have passed on a request to my school's Schoology admins as well.  However, I'd like to post a description of the issue here in case it can get things moving faster, as the inability to upload videos to Schoology Pages is getting in the way of my online lessons.

I have been able to create pages of notes with a video embedded as recently as June, but this week I had trouble doing so, and it's putting a bit of a damper on getting my online lessons done.

I use Google Chrome on Windows 10 Home.

I follow this process every time:

    1. In Materials, I choose the Add Page option
    2. I add the page title and text where necessary
    3. I choose the Insert Content (Image/Media) button
    4. I use the Attach File button, then browse to and select my lesson recording video (always .mp4 format)
    5. I ensure the video size is less than 100MB
    6. I attach the video, then click on the image settings button by hovering over the video in the page editor and set the video dimensions

As recently as June, I have been able to view videos from my Schoology pages with full functionality.  As of today, however, I uploaded a video and then opened the page - but I can see only the video container but no video (no clickable play button or play bar, no preview loaded).  I tried copying the video link and pasting it into the address bar to access it directly, but I got a Page not Found error.

It works when I choose to not encode the video, but the resulting quality of the video is unacceptable.

The videos I uploaded to lesson pages I created in June, however, are still intact and work fine.  When I visit their direct video url, the video starts downloading automatically in my browser.

Upon further investigation I found that the structure of the video urls themselves are different.  For example:

It's really disappointing when a feature that I relied on so much for so long just breaks.

Your kind attention to this issue is most appreciated.  Thank you very much.

    Cheers.

    Hi, Mr. Luqman.

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulty with this issue.

I understand you are using the Google Chrome browser on a Windows 10 device. However, does this issue continue to persist on different browsers and devices? If so, have you attempted to clear your cache and delete cookies on your browser to see if that resolves the error?

If not, are you able to review our System Requirements Guidelines found in this article to ensure optimal performance while using Schoology.

If the issue continues to persist, please reach out to your schools designated Support Contact again. They will be able to submit a ticket to the Schoology Help Desk on your behalf for further investigation.

We were having similar issues, and found that if you upload the videos to a google folder first, and attach/embed from the google folder vs. from your desktop, it fixed the issue!!! Yay community learning.
