New assessment question bank

Seguir

Is there a way to create questions in an assessment (not test/quiz) and then save them to a question bank yet? I know that question banks can be associated with assessments, but I don't see a way to migrate the questions from the assessment to a test bank in resources. Thanks!

This is no longer listed on the roadmap, and the link you provided no longer works. Could we have an update? This is a feature that many at our school we're anticipating.

Is it possible to say whether this feature is going to be limited to only certain users? It seems like the project roadmap went from suggesting this would be a feature for everyone to recently suggesting it might only be available for those using AMP.

    Hi all,

Thank you for your interest in Question Banks for Course Assessments! I wanted to provide more context on this to avoid any confusion over our Product Roadmap. Schoology encourages instructors to utilize Assessments as we continuously add more features. While the long-term plan for Schoology is to enhance Course Assessments and phase out the Test/Quiz feature, we want to ensure a seamless transition for everyone using our original testing feature. At this time, we decided to take Question Banks for Assessments out of the research and planning stage of our development process.

The Product Roadmap is a snapshot of what we are planning to do at a given point in time - but like everything else in life, even the best-laid plans are subject to change. Since the research and planning for Question Banks for Assessments is on-hold, we wanted to remove it from the Product Roadmap so users are not confused about what Schoology is currently developing. That is the ultimate purpose of having a public roadmap - keeping our users up-to-date on the decisions being made and work being done at Schoology.

We recommend that you click Follow on each section of the Product Roadmap to stay up to date on other key features we're building:

Additionally, at this time, AMP users may convert Test/Quiz and Course Assessments into AMP Question Banks. I hope this information is helpful!

    Hi Claire,

While that was helpful for us understanding better, it is not good news. As a technology integrator I have to be certain the needs of our teachers are being met in the best ways possible. I will not be suggesting our teachers shift from Test/Quiz to Assessments until there is a Question Bank available for them there. The collaborative Question Bank is an integral part of how we run things in our district. I certainly appreciate the wide variety of question options in Assessments but that is not everything to us. I have the distinct feeling we are being pushed into purchasing AMP, even though it really does not meet our needs.

    Hi Carol,

Thank you for reaching out in the Community! I understand your concerns regarding Question Banks for Assessments. Although we've taken it out of the research and planning stage of our development process - that doesn’t mean we are not going to implement them at all. We just aren’t working on it right now. We understand how integral question banks are to any testing experience, and we’ll be implementing Question Banks for Assessments before the Test/Quiz is retired.

    I hope this clarifies things!

    Claire,

This seems to be a poorly timed move on Schoology's part that makes it seem as if they are more interested in AMP users than other Enterprise users. I work in a small district with no curriculum director, no tech integration specialist, and no department chairs. AMP is a nice tool but not something we can afford on top of our Enterprise subscription and as you can see, we have no one that could begin to implement AMP.

Without test banks, grade by question, and the ability to comment on questions I will now stop using assessments. I had been keeping tests as Test/Quiz to use test banks, but with this additional move back from "full parity" with Test/Quiz I will no longer be converting shorter, daily T/Q sets to assessments until those enhancements are added and features that don't work are fixed. (T/F Qs that require correction)

    Hello, Claire,

I believe our district is an Enterprise user. We are small and most of us are single-subject teachers, so the need to share assessment banks is not needed. What I DO need is a way to store questions on assessments. Currently, I have one assessment with ALL my questions, organized as best I can. When I want to use some of the questions, I make a copy of the main assessment and delete all the others. This takes a ridiculous amount of time. I don't know how anything else on the roadmap could take precedence over an assessment bank for enterprise users when mandated standardized testing is a priority in most every state right now. Please, please ask to have assessment banks put back in the "do it now!" category.

    Luann,

I haven't switched from Test/Quiz for summative assessments for this reason. I only use Assessments for smaller, in-class work. This is such a shame because there are so many great question types, but not having question banks is a deal breaker.

Notice also that I got no response from Schoology on this and I am their Ambassador of the year and they asked me to write a journal article for them.

    Phil,

I want to use assessments because they mimic our state EOC biology test. I can't replicate the type of questions on the state test using the Test/Quiz feature. I maintain my own website with assignments and so much more. I can hand-code a page on my own website faster than I can click a million times to add things to Schoology, and still can't quite rearrange them as I like. (I'd like a whole month's calendar to be visible in its entirety for students.) Frankly, except the Assessment feature (that promised a bank) I do not use Schoology at all.

    Hi Phil and Luann,

Thank you for your additional feedback. Rest assured we do carefully monitor all feature idea posts and comments. Due to the high volume of requests, it’s not possible to personally respond to every posted request and comment.

We understand Question Banks for Assessments is an integral part of the move from Test/Quiz to Assessments. We've kept an open dialogue with our Product team on this topic and your feedback is being heard.

As we already mentioned in our past comments, Question Banks for Assessments is still forecast for Course Assessments (not just AMP), but it is not in research or development just yet. We'll be sure to let you know when we have an update and we'll add it to the Product Roadmap as soon as we start working on planning and building this important feature.

    Claire,

Still not going to use it for anything other than small assignments.

Again, love the question types but to pull the implementation of this key feature until some unknown distant time is hardly acceptable given that initially, full parity with Test/Quiz should have happened.

That it is not even on the roadmap is beyond disappointing, so much so that I can't recommend assessments for testing so most staff haven't even engaged with it.

Claire, what feature request has Schoology actually added that teachers have requested? I'm looking at the completed list and its been over 2 years since any of our request were completed that were posted in the community, except for individually assigning folders. Most of the things on the product road map are not features that were asked for in the community by the actual teachers using Schoology.

I was waiting patiently for a year for these banks as they were on your time line, and then this vital feature suddenly disappears! In lui of such a vital feature, we get features we simply do not need. Why aren't the teachers  that are using your product listened to? The assessment test bank is integral to reusing and sharing assessment questions.

I am disappointed in the failure of Schoology to address the request of teachers and also, the lack of marking which parts on assessments students have missed without displaying the correct answers.

I make very robust assessments with multiple parts. It often takes me 4 hours just to complete one interactive assessment. As of now, every question in the assessment is stuck in the assessment, and can't ever be shared or used in any other assessment. This is sad.

This feature trumps EVERY single feature on your currently "planned" and "in research" list. Who is deciding what gets changed? It doesn't appear to be us educators.

    Professor SAN MIGUEL, Philip, Luann,

I could not agree more with all of you.  Assessments was released, but you couldn't print the tests, and test banks were not a part of it.  In all of my communications with Schoology, the response was, "don't worry, they are coming".  Now, reading these comments, I see that those statements were not accurate.  Now I pushed Assessments to my teachers, and they are frustrated with the lack of having test banks.  Since Schoology doesn't include Respondus lock-down browser with their platform (they should), assigning random questions is one of the only ways we can ensure testing fidelity and accuracy in our high school.

Very disappointed in Schoology.  How this isn't one of the top priorities is just baffling to me.

    Justin,

Agreed. Despite what Claire states above, at NEXT in Boca, we were told unequivocally that test banks for assessments were back on the roadmap by Joel.

They are still not on the roadmap.

I agree with all the above.  The fact that assessments are not usable with test banks, and no longer even in R & D is unresponsive to the requests of users--teachers, curriculum managers, etc.  I prefer many features of "assessments" over those of "quizzes/tests," but not being able to create and share assessment question banks is a SERIOUS flaw.

How is it that a simple online quiz making platform like Quia could provide test bank functionality in 2007, and Schoology can't effectively implement this fundamental feature in their more modern LMS in 2020? The fact that such a core piece of LMS functionality isn't even on your roadmap suggests a poorly engineered software design that's now making it too difficult to implement this feature. It's hard for me to believe that the Schoology Design Team actually thinks this shouldn't have been implemented by now, especially when it was on the "Roadmap" in 2008 and you're encouraging teachers to use assessments.

As the tech coordinator of my school, I've been trying to move teachers off of Google Classroom, but when I have to store all my questions in one assessment, make a copy, and then delete the questions from each unique test I want to create, well, that's just terrible software design. At least, my teachers can still import questions from other quizzes in Google Forms.

If it takes years to get essential features that every Modern LMS should have, I have to wonder if it would just be better to stay with Classroom and continue to just use Schoology as nothing more than the district mandated gradebook. At the feature development pace Schoology is moving at, Google Classroom might surpass you.

Tobias Seiple, could NOT agree more.  Funny thing, it has been added back into the roadmap, but this should have been done over a year ago.  It also never should have even been removed from the roadmap.

I share your concern that I am trying to "sell" Schoology to my teachers, and get them off of Google Classroom.  Things like this make that job MUCH more difficult.

With the need for almost all schools to be teaching remotely during the Covid-19 closures, please make this a TOP PRIORITY!!  We need to be able to create assessments more quickly.  Having to start from scratch each time is extremely time consuming and tests/quizzes are just not as functional especially for math teachers.

    Currently still missing from assessments:

    Test banks

    Commenting on Questions

A/V recording for both teachers and students...

Sticking to Test/Quiz for any assessments that need randomized testing until all of those features exist.

Any timeline on when the "assessment/question bank" issue will be resolved. I am at a turning point in selecting/creating platforms and don't want to invest time in a failing effort? Please advise?

    POSSIBLE SOLUTION!

For all Assessments converted from quizzes or recently created, and now inaccessible to test banks, why not offer in the interim a method to "convert ASSESSMENT TO QUIZ". A lifeboat to salvage potentially time-wasted on assessments, utilizing an already working test bank.

Users convert back and forth, essentially having the best of both worlds, and Schoology would have a working short term solution.

IMHO..if a conversation from quiz to assessment exist, then the tech is there. simply reverse it...it would send a message that you interested in your extremely valuable advocates aka subscribers, loyalty and customer service vs forcing an incomplete platform out that hinders users.

The question begs to be asked!! :-(

Check out Kahoots "question bank" feature...so fast and amazing to make Kahoot on the fly. It was probably spotted as a powerful feature of Gimkit

Check out Edulastic's fast and easy question banks.

It MUST be time for a higher-level type of assessment system in "assessments" that isn't buggy or takes 30 minutes to provide student feedback.

After this spring of 100% online school, students really need the variety and power of what "assessments" could offer. WHEN??

All of teacher's investments in past test/quiz and question banks needs to be merged. Items could be open sourced if tagged/searchable and put in a worldwide question bank (Kahoot, Gimkit, Edulastic, etc.) and ready for fall 2020. WE NEED THIS in Covid-19 online teaching and the vastly uncertain future.

THANK YOU for the help and update work!

I have been wanting question banks in assessments since assessments were introduced. There isn't even a way to copy questions from one assessment to another. That seems basic. Today, I decided to bite the bullet and get AMP only to find out they are now pushing you to another  platform called Performance Matters which is outside Schoology and more directly linked to Powerschool SIS. That creates more issues and more  headache for teachers. I am starting to lose faith in Schoology.

Schoology developers - if you see this - we really need this feature.

Teachers could be faced with trying to prep for an in person class and remote learning class at the same time. Many schools are planning for a blended learning model, so some students will be doing online class while others are getting in person lectures. It's a lot for many teachers and anything that helps up work faster not only helps the teachers, but it leaves us more time to focus on making the new learning environment easier for our students and communities!

Please, please, please work on this. We would all be really grateful for this feature!
