Don't show past assignments as Overdue For Move-In Students

Seguir

If a kid moves to our school in November, everything from August, September and October will appear to that student and their parent as overdue! Fortunately, they don't count in the gradebook as zeroes or anything, but it can be disconcerting for the kids to login for their first time and see dozens and dozens of overdue assignments . . . combined with the stress of being at a new school!

Maybe there should be a way to easily mark those as excused?

I would think that going through to mark all assignments as excused even is a burden to put on teachers. If each user doesn't have a join date attribute for each course on the back end, that shouldn't be too terrible to add (though maybe it would be during the middle of the school year) and would be an easy way to auto-excuse all assignments from before the join date. It would be less work to individually assign recent assignments, rather than excusing everything.

The emphasis was on 'easily'. I really like the idea of tying an 'enroll' date with excusing anything prior to that.

I agree. This is also the case when we switch students from one period to the next during the year.

This is a big problem that needs to be addressed

I have a similar issue with actual overdue assignments continuing to show up in my Parent digest long after the grading period ends.  My kid had a rough freshman year with lots of overdue assignments.  Part of our strategy for keeping him on track this year is monitoring schoology more closely.  It will be very difficult to tell if he has an actual overdue assignment that needs to be addressed right away if it is buried in a list of last year's problems.

It is 2019 and this is still not fixed.  I've had an open support ticket since March of 2017 with the promise of it being fixed, but no ETA.  Looks like this has been an issue since 2015 at this point.
