Send a message or update to a grading group...

We would like to post an update that is only visible to a specific grading group. Is this possible? If not, I would like to add it as a feature request.

    I am sorry to hear that you are facing an inconvenience due to this but we cannot post updates in Grading Groups like regular assignments. Here is how the process of feature ideas works at Schoology. You can also follow the progress of new features via our Product Roadmap.

    Here's how I solved this:  I made an ungraded assignment and just assigned it individually to the group.  If you put a due date on it, it shows up as an assignment in their upcoming.  Not super elegant, but it worked for what I was going for.

    I thought you could do this (based on incorrect interpretation of "group) from reading this tutorial:

    I excitedly created my groups only to realize that the referenced "group" isn't the same as a "grading group". Oh well, just time wasted--and I got lots of time!

    Yes, the terms Group and Grading Group are confusing.

    Please add this feature.  When students are working on a group project for example, it would be helpful to either message or post updates to just that group!!

    This is one feature that Canvas does pretty well. I'm slowly adjusting to Schoology but the lack of group assignments, grading, messaging, etc, is going to be a struggle for sure!

    Yes, this is the feature that Schoology is lacking. Can't imagine how wonderful if grading group messaging can be used.

    Is this STILL not available?! People have been talking about it since 2014. It is a significant issue that we can't message a grade group.

    I teach two sections of a few courses and decided to try grade groups instead of different sections because I can't assign graded discussions across sections (neede when a student is moved to a different in-person section but has to be kept in their Schoology section to avoid having to manually enter their grades in the new section).

    Since my course sections take place on alternating A/B days, I can't always post one update to the whole course because one of the sections may not have been introduced to whatever I'm posting about yet. This is where being able to post an update or message to a specific grade group would be invaluable.

    Please consider this for a near-future update. The sooner the better!

    As our school implements a hybrid schedule with students in the same period in different cohorts meeting on different days, it will be essential to be able to send different cohorts separate messages.

    I wonder if Schoology designers read these posts and consider the requests given that this has been an issue since 2014 and it still has not been addressed.

    There definitely need to be a way to message or post updates to a specific grading group.  I would also like to be able to assign more than just a folder to a grading group. It would be helpful to be able to individually assign a page or assignment as well.

    You can individually assign a page or an assignment to a grading group, just like a folder. Anywhere you see the 3 triangular dots icon for individually assign.

    We need to be able to message an entire grading group and also to be able to message multiple members of the same class at once without needing to assign them to a grading group.  For example, today I realized after a student turned in an assessment that I had the questions set for exact match when they should have been partial match.  I fixed it for students who open the assessment later, and I edited grades for those who had already submitted, but I have a group of kids who are already in progress.  I wanted to send them all a message at once to let them know when they turned it in, the grade may be lower than it should be, but I will fix it ASAP.  I would have had to copy and paste that message 10 times.  Very inefficient!

    I will join the rest of my colleagues and strongly urge Schoology to implement this feature as soon as possible. This seems to be a very essential feature. Being able to assign assignments to groups is great, but it is mystifying why Schoology has not prioritized the ability to message the same group and apparently, from reading the comments this is been being requested since 2014.

    . Please implement this as soon as you can.

    I notice that this was brought up in 2014, in 2019 someone stated that it still hasn't been addressed.  I am getting the feeling that the Help Center is here for us to write comments that go to the cloud - only to be read by like minded, creative people.  Does Schoology employ any developers? It seems like so many of the ideas shared, as I have looked up several, would not be too difficult for developers to create.

    HOW is this still not a thing!! Is it that hard to do or just considered so minimal nobody has bothered to implement it?!?

    PLEASE find a way that we can post updates AND message grading groups!!!

    Just wish Schoology grading groups worked as well as Canvas grading groups.

    • Assign to a set of groups for particular assignments.
    • Only one person in the group needs to submit an assignment for the group.
    • Grades and markup on the assignment for one group member apply to the whole group.
    • Comments for one group member can be individual or apply to the whole group.
