Two-way sync with calendars

Seguir

I would like to see a way to more easily manage the importing of external calendars.

Our school manages group calendars outside of Schoology so they can be synced with our website and email server. It would be great to see a 2-way sync available, or the following improvements as well:

  • Ability to periodically re-import a feed without creating duplicate entries.

  • Clear the contents of a group calendar so that it can be updated with new events

  • A list-view with checkboxes for calendar events to delete and later re-load events

We would be one step closer to one stop shopping if our school calendars could be fed to the schoology site - has anyone from schoology commented on progress on this or when we might be able to see something like this? It's standard practice almost anywhere else and so frustrating for students and faculty. It's almost 2016 and this post (and others like it) went up over 2 years ago.

I don't think anyone from Schoology has ever responded to this request. I am starting to use Google Classroom for workflow and it automatically puts the assignment in the students and my Google Classroom as well as sends them an email. At the current time I only use Schoology for assessments.

This is an essential today for any system like this! Not sure why it wasn't built in but sent an email to our account rep about it AGAIN today. It's time Schoology - lets do it!

2 way calendar sync is vital to making the Schoology calendar a useful tool for students.

Just like others, this is huge if it could happen.  How do we know if a certain request is being considered?  This has to be one of the top ones....

    Hello,

I see this is an important and much needed feature, and I sincerely apologize for the delay in response.

Our engineering team is aware of this request and we are doing everything we can to prioritize its development. We're unable to provide a date for its release but we will continue to work closely with our team to make sure that there's progress. I hope that it can be available soon!

Thank you so much for your patience and for your support of the Schoology Community.

Am I the only one who is disappointed to see requests that were added 3 years ago that have still not be added, especially as popular as this one seems to be?

    Hi Phillip,

I sent a request to support to understand why this is the case, as I was also frustrated with this and other requests not being acknowledged or addressed in this "community area". I was told that they have added additional staff to specifically monitor this area and communicate this information back to the development team. I will be waiting to see if change is coming. The stats currently are pretty bleak on the responses from Schoology, if any, and completion of actual feature enhancements that come from this community feature request area but I am hopeful that change is on the way.

    Hi Jamie,

We came from My Big Campus and I would often see simple requests (like passwords for tests) completed in a month or so. Something like this calendar request was done in the course of a school year. Posts were answered the same day (often within minutes) by MBC Coaches (like I was) and by MBC personnel. If a coach asked question it was answered withing minutes by someone from MBC.

Like you, I am hopeful this will change in Schoology, but I have not been impressed so far.

Messages from this forum return to my email every year like the swallows to San Capistrano with the same predictable result from Schoology, nothing.  You can't expect that to change.  You can only dissuade other school districts from making the same mistake your's did.  You owe to their students.

    Hi everyone,

My name is Ching from the Schoology team. I'd like to personally apologize for the lack of communication on our end, and the frustration caused by it. We value and listen to all of your feedback, but unfortunately, have not done a good job at letting you know that.

While not all feature requests can be approved for implementation, and the timeline varies for approved features depending on our existing roadmap items, this is actually a feature that we all agree would benefit users like you.

The good news is that we have been researching ways to alleviate this issue for you. But we have not officially added this to our current roadmap.

That said, we want all of our users to be successful and recognize that being responsive is key to this success. I am one of the team members empowered to prioritize our Community feedback and improve responsiveness.

Our goal is to share your feedback to our development team and come back to you with timely and tangible information. I can assure you that this will be on the top of my list in this month's meeting.

If you have further concerns in the meantime, please let me know. Thank you in advance for the opportunity to regain your trust.

    Ching,

I appreciate your response here and can understand how difficult this could be, especially with so many calendar platforms out there (Outlook, iCal, and Google to name a few.)  However, I have noticed the same with what should be a much easier request, the ability to password protect quizzes and tests. ( https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/212736548-Password-Protected-Test )

That should be much easier to accomplish, yet the response to this year's request was to link it back to a three year old request.  That makes it seem as if Schoology is more about sales that support.

    Disappointed so far.

I have a way for Schoology admins to pull in Google calendars automatically AND unimport them using a Google Apps Script to make Schoology api calls. This is still a work in progress but so far I can specify a class section and calendar name and choose a time period from which to pull events from the selected Google Calendar into Schoology. Two way syncing is possible using the same tactics but would be a lot more work. I think most people would prefer to edit Google Calendar events in Google and have them pushed automatically to Schoology anyway.

Here is my version 1.0 for syncing Google Calendars to a Schoology calendar. A person with sufficient Google Apps Script (javascript basically) knowledge can...

    1. Sync multiple Google Calendars to a District, School, User, Section or Group Schoology calendar. It syncs FROM Google TO Schoology and not the other way. It also syncs future events only but is easily changed to accommodate past events.

    2. Uninstall the sync so that it deletes the synced events from your Schoology calendar and doesn't sync anymore.

    3. I commented the heck out of the code so give it a whirl, but start small to make sure it behaves the way you think it should!

My hope for 2.0 would be that an individual teacher could set this up with a nice user interface. Schoology is giving me the run-around about actually creating an app (like the Google Drive app). They don't know me so they're being cautious which I get, but this did not take me a lot of time once I saw the post last Wednesday afternoon based on api work I had done before, so hopefully they reconsider.

This has been a request since 2013 and it is currently 2017 - could we please get a Schoology response? Just tell us why this can never happen and document it as a non-feature and then we can get rid of this 4 year thread and the upvoting that goes nowhere. Highly frustrated with the communication from Schoology on this request, as well as the upgraded test/quiz builder that I announced to my faculty after last years NEXT conference and they have not delivered on yet. They did the same thing at the conference the year before when they announced the highly anticipated access offline feature and took the following year to deliver a version of it. Please don't make premature announcements. Announce a delivery date and deliver the feature. Please excuse my rant!

Jamie,  I understand your frustrations.  Schoology's communication skills are lacking.  I did notice that in August of 2016 Ching Ng replied but that is the last contact.  As you said I wish they would just say that we can't do this and then we know. But it shouldn't take three years for the first response and then silence for another 7 months.

Please get together and build a two-way calendar sync. Posting twice is a real drag. This has been going on for quite a while, like so many things with Schoology. When I I tell people about how great it is for a LMS they bring things like this up. Slow to fix important features.
