Add a reminder for re-submitted material

Seguir

I love that you added an ungraded section! Is there anyway to be notified if something has been resubmitted. I often look at student work and have them fix problems and resubmit. I always have them send an email but it seems like it could be easier.

    Hello,

We have released an update that will send a reminder when an assignment is resubmitted.

EDIT: This update has been temporarily reverted. We will add a notification here as soon as the feature has been re-enabled.

EDIT 2: This feature has been re-enabled. If you encounter any issues using the new feature, please let us know by clicking 'Submit a Request' near the top-right of this page.

    Sincerely,
    Jon

Any progress on this at all?  This has been requested for over a year?  I'm about ready to go back to Moodle.  On there I could see the time/date that students submitted.  Plus the link was a different color.

I have found that using the notification emails (NOT the notifications area in Schoology) can help here as you can set it to notify you when a new dropbox item is received. Then a link is provided directly to the assignment. I've gone now to using the email notifications rather than the reminders area to help me keep track of what needs graded.  Just something to help in the mean time:)

I teach Computer Applications.  I have 75 students per day. My students submit at least one file per day...most of the time more.  Now I don't necessary "grade" each assignment...just give credit for submitting.  But on those that I do grade, it would be a nightmare to sort through emails. Maybe if I could filter it to only notify me on resubmitted assignments, but even then, I would have to go to my email, then go to Schoology to grade it....why not set it up where it's all done in Schoology in the first place?

If it could post the submission date beside the student in the dropbox list, that would help some..  At least then if I had marked something with a 0 because it needed corrected, I would be able to tell if it was a recent submission without having to open the dropbox.

I agree that it should be right there in Schoology somehow - I just found that this was helpful as opposed to blindly opening all dropboxes looking for resubmissions.

Yes, you are probably right.  And I'm very sorry if I came off as rude.  I'm just very frustrated and overwhelmed.  Our mid-term progress reports go out Friday and I don't see how I'm going to be able to get what needs to be on there graded in time.  I am also frustrated because this request has been out there for over a year, and there has been NO response from Schoology regarding it's progress.  I posted on the old support system a month ago, and my response was never acknowledged.  I would just like to know if this is something they are working on or not.  And if they are working on it, can I have a timeline?  The next update, next year, something? :)

Students often send me revisions or I make them resubmit assignments for my class. I would imagine your workflow is to teach the students to message me (the teacher) to say..."please regrade or grade my assignment Mr. So and So...." However, what would work for me when grading assignments is that there would be an additional filter when grading assignments called "Revision Submitted - Graded" and "Revision Submitted - Ungraded." This would be in the list with the attached. Does this make sense?

Yes that filter would be helpful as well - but there does need to be way in Reminders to let you know to even get to the page where revisions await you. Agreed that once there - this filter would be an excellent addition!

In complete agreement with this need- I have 110 students with revisions, but I can't tell which version I've graded- If there is a new one, there is no "ungraded submissions" option- I can only see that a students has received a grade (but it may be for the first draft, not a new one). This is a must have!

I am new to Schoology and like it so far.  I didn't seem to like Moodle when I first checked it out. But I'm seeing others seem to like Moodle - can I ask if there are things you like other than this issue? Thanks for your opinions!

Moodle is totally customizable.  Yes, it may seem a little "clunky" at first, but it can be made to work very well.  The gradebook in Schoology is awful.  You cannot sort based on anything but alphabetical.  In Moodle, you can arrange your assignments in any way you want.  (Drag and drop)  You can set weights for categories and weights for assignments within categories.

When students upload assignments (drag and drop also), it time/date stamps the submission.  When you apply a grade, it time/date stamps your feedback. If they resubmit, it is as simple as resorting the table by date and there you have it...all the newest submissions at the top.  You can download all submissions and an offline grading worksheet.  Input your grades and then upload grading sheet back to Moodle...and it updates them automatically.

You can arrange assignments on your course page as you desire (again...drag and drop)...you can duplicate assignments with the click of a couple of buttons and make changes as needed.

It is open source, so there are basically endless plug-ins that you can use to make it suit your needs.  Here it is the end of the nine weeks and I'm about to get everything back on track since switching back a couple of weeks ago.  I regret ever trying anything else.  I would give you more info, but Schoology may not appreciate it. ;)  You can do a search for a demo course for Moodle 2.5 and you can find a page that lets you try out all the different roles.

Count my vote in for this also.  I'm with Kim on this one  - I miss the ease and functionality I had with my Moodle room.... More frustration ensues.....

I recently asked about this and this was the response I got. I guess we need to get more votes somehow.

Michael Indeglio, Nov 22 16:45 (EST):
    Susan,

Thank you for reaching out to the Schoology Help Desk.

While this ability isn't currently available on Schoology, you might consider adding your idea to our Community Feature Requests forum so that other users can search for your idea and "like" it. Our Development Team will take the votes of each request into consideration when considering our roadmap for features.

You can find the Community Feature Request area at https://support.schoology.com/hc/communities/public/topics.

    Thank you for using Schoology!

    Respectfully,

    Michael Indeglio

I am definitely in the same situation as you are. Dying to have a way to view assignments that are already graded, but need a 2nd grading because of being resubmitted.

After reading all the comments, one comes to the conclusion that being able to just sort the submissions columns by date, could solve most of our problems.
Not too much to ask… don’t you think?

Just Emailed a request asking for the same thing- I get an email stating they submit something, but I get about 50 emails a day so it would be really great to have a different color in the right Submissions Column.

I completely support this. I don't even consider it a feature request, but a bug, or at least an omission.

Absolutely agreed. When you have over 100 assignments a day coming in, email notifications are not an option. There needs to be a clear color coded message in the assignment submissions area highlighting re-submitted work.

Or at least to be able to sort them by date received. I am surprised to see that schoology hasn't done anything to solve this issue...

After submitting numerous tickets and feature request, I think the inability to see revised assignments marked with "Needs Grading" is a bug. After nearly a year and half of Schoology use in my class, I have discovered it is nearly impossible to keep up with graded vs. non-graded in a middle school classroom. On countless occasions, I have asked students to resubmit work, and they did, only to discover I never graded it. I have managed to keep using Schoology by doing two things: 1) never truly assess the bad assignment and leave it ungraded while reminding the student verbally; and 2) teaching students to send me a message if they resubmitted something which fills by message box quickly with six classes a day.
PLEASE take a look...maybe create a fake class and pretend you are teaching middle schoolers....ask them to resubmit and see what happens. It is very frustrating for such a cool user interface!
    Best regards and THANK YOU!

I just saw the new link about re-submitted assignments... I thought, finally! So I clicked on it, followed the link to the assignment with re-submissions and got the list of 60 graded assignment with no clue as to which person actually created a new submission... so... does that mean that I have to go through all 60 assignments (some of which already have 2nd submissions) to figure out who re-submitted? This is clearly not an option... so please explain that one to me as I did not see any link that sends me to ONLY the re-submitted assignments or sorts the assignments by date.

Will there be a way to reset when the notifications start? I just got 873 notifications for re-submitted assignments... Maybe June is not the best roll-out date for this feature?

I'm not sure that a simple reminder is the total solution for the problem. As others have mentioned, we need a way to identify resubmissions without having to open each and every dropbox. I believe that a filter would be a necessary companion to the reminder.
