Student Q&A

Cannot submit .java files

I have to upload .java documents for some assignments in one of my classes and have done so without a problem before now. I can no longer submit any of my .java documents on any assignment on Schoology (I have tested this on other assignments for other classes and I cannot submit .java files there either) and is stuck "uploading" and will not allow me to submit. I also have tried downloading the files to my phone and my chromebook and I cannot submit them there either. I am however able to upload my projects to my google drive and I can create folders and upload them to it. Unless support for .java files has been dropped for Schoology I have no other ideas to turn these in as normal other than renaming the file to be a .txt extension.

    Hi Hayden,

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

Java files are not supported file types in Schoology.  Do you remember when the last time you were able to successfully submit a java file?  This way we can determine if it was a defect or a change in behavior that allowed you to upload this type of file? This Help Guide outlines the supported file types we accept in Schoology.

Due to this limitation I am asking my students to either e-mail the .java files to me or first zip them, then upload the .zip to the assignment. It is a little bit of a pain, but it works.

I am having the same issue.  I was able to attach .java files last school year (May 2021) but am no longer able to.  Students are also not able to submit assignments with .java attachments.  Zip files do work but like Mr. Farrell said, that is a pain.
