Title/File Name Changing when downloading PDFs from Schoology

Seguir

Hello,

We use Notability and Schoology with iPads every day.  For the last week, every time I grab a pdf from Schoology, it gives me a crazy file name that starts with "https:avi.schoology.comv1attachment" followed by 30-40 more random letters and numbers (see attachment for full name).  These files used to just be titled with whatever the title was of the file in my Schoology folders.  This happens when I send a file to email, files (on iPad), Notability, etc.  Is there something I can do on my end to change this?  Or is this something that Schoology plans on fixing soon?  I will just continue to rename the files, but my students don't always do that.  This gets a little annoying when they can't easily find specific notes or assignments, as well as when they submit assignments.

Thanks!

    Hi, Mr. Melone.

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

We’ve reported this issue to our Engineering team with a priority of Moderate Impact. This means that we understand downloading attachments in the Schoology app is not working fully as intended, but prioritization of this issue is weighted against more urgent issues and other features we are developing. As a workaround, students can download attachments using the mobile browser on the iPad, such as Safari, or download the attachments on a web browser on a computer.

Please let us know if there is new information about this issue that might change the priority. It can be included in a larger scope of work or the priority changes because we missed something from you or hear back from other Schoology customers about this issue, we’ll let you know.

Otherwise, you’ll receive an update from us via this thread  when the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for getting back to me, and thank you for the workaround.  I will let me students know that this is an option.

    Have a good one.

Our school district uses Schoology & Notability every day as well. To clarify, the issue is the naming convention when the file gets imported from Schoology to Notability, not the actual process of importing the file. This is affecting a large portion of assignments daily which can in turn affect student grades if they aren't submitting the appropriate assignment solely because they can't find it easily in Notability or are attaching the wrong one.

The new names are not user-friendly.  Students now have the extra step of re-naming every file they download.  Some students do not take the time to re-name the files because they are trying to keep up (remember.....many students are virtual at this time).  That leads to a "junk drawer" of files that they have to sort through in order to find the file again if they needed to work with it more.  My students brought this issue to me and asked that I PLEASE ask you to fix this as it is adding more stress than not.  "It's as if Schoology de-evolved," said one student.  It doesn't affect me like it affects my students who download files every day from each of their classes........

Until recently, when a student on his iPad would open a PDF in PDF expert (or save/open to any other location) from Schoology, it would be listed with the title of the PDF, such as "Africa Notes." Now when doing that, it has a different title, such as shown in the attached screenshot, and it gets confusing for students. Is there a way to maintain the original title of the assignment when exported from Schoology.

    Thank you for any advice.

Please help correct the naming issue from Schoology to Notability. It is very confusing for students. Thank you!!

It would be great if there was a way to mark up the PDF directly in Schoology without needing a 3rd party app -- like the way Google Classroom does. It cuts out this process entirely.

I second this, our students started to have this issue the past couple of weeks.  I do think it needs to be escalated to High priority instead of moderate

I agree that this is high priority.  I have many teachers and students asking why this is happening.  It is especially difficult for our EL learners, where clear names of documents are very important for communication via distance learning.

This issue has been going on since January 12.  Does anyone see any glimmer of hope in resolving this issue?   WHY is it still a moderate issue?  Do we have to wait until the school year is over?  What is the trigger to make this a high priority?

I was told the new update to the Schoology app should fix this problem.  The app updated I think earlier this week.

We tried the update but we are still seeing the same issues.  We contacted support and it was classified as moderate - again.

The app is still not changed for us - it still pulls in "https:api.schoology.com..." for a title. The only change that I can see now is that when using a browser, the title is not "https:api.schooology.com..." it is a long series of numbers. Here is an example:
