Search capabilities for comments and messages

Seguir

It would be REALLY helpful to be able to pull up all of my communications (including messages and comments) with a particular student.  It is often exasperating trying to find the details of a conversation with one of my students – especially if it the issue was addressed several weeks or months ago.  I don't always recall if my remark was made in a message or a comment.

It would also help if there was also a key word/phrase search option.

I am not asking to re-invent the wheel.  Search features are routinely incorporated into other online communications platforms.

Yes, I need this functionality as well. I am new to Schoology and was shocked to discover this is not an option. The only work around I have found is using the operating system find feature, but it only works on one page at a time. I have pages and pages of messages that need to be searched.

Agreed. I hesitate to use the messaging feature in Schoology because I cannot search through the messages.

I just posted the identical request. There's no way to search Feature Ideas either!

Please, please. Being able to sort and search messages would be FABULOUS! Very much needed when Schoology is used as the main classroom resource. That is how all of our students message us. And if we reply, we don't even see who the message was sent to!

Please provide a way to search key words to quickly find messages.

This feature is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in the coronavirus era since we are now only communicating with our students electronically!

Please add this feature immediately!! Why isn't this a thing already? It's really hard to find specific communications from specific students right now and it's making my job harder.

I have been trying to pull up a "sent messages" folder, but can't seem to find anything. Does it even exist? I believe I have sent a couple of messages to a student, but would like to confirm that they were sent, and what I said in them. However, when I click on the "mail" icon, I only get the reply, "no new messges." Does anyone have any idea about this?

I have an envelope icon in the upper right of my screen.  I can click it and... at the bottom of the drop down menu... is a View All button.  I click on that... and get all of the messages.  In the upper left, the default tab is Inbox.  I click on the other tab: Sent Messages.  I have literally thousands of messages to search.  If the message is relatively recent, the Find feature (command-f on my Mac) will search what is on the screen for a student's name.  However, this process must be repeated page-by-page until the message is found.  This process is extremely clunky.

I have my messages mirrored to my email address.  The search capabilities in my email system are far superior.  Even so, it is necessary for me to find the date of the message, go back to Schoology to search for that date, find the message in question and then respond to it.  There might be a better way to handle this.  I simply do not know of anything better within this system.

Searching is a well-established problem with a known solution.  I cannot fathom why the Schoology programmers have not addressed this.

    Good luck!

    Hi Michael,

We were experiencing a delay in messaging, which should be functioning as normal presently.

Are you still unable to see your sent messages? Have you tried navigating to your messages manually by adding "/messages" to the end of the Schoology domain you use? For example: "app.schoology.com/messages"

Please add search to messages. Also, view unread.

A message spreadsheet format that is searchable by student name, course, section, date, subject, etc.  would really increase teacher efficiency in managing student-teacher communication and greatly appreciated by all.  Teaching multiple classes and having 100 students is all  about time efficiency which isn't the case with the current state of Schoology student messaging.

Yes, this pretty much sucks. It's really just an on-th-fly messaging system, not email functionality, so the basic stuff I need to search and track multiple threads, reply all, organize by topic, is just not there. Yet, I have to use it all the time, because that's what my kids and colleagues use, so now I just have this virtual random junk drawer of correspondence that's almost impossible to wade through. Very, very frustrating...

If it is possible, it would be a HUGE help if Schoology would add a simple search box with the message system so that we can find and locate all messages to and from specific students.

This is a wonderful method of communicating but severely limited when trying to find a message that you received and/or sent!  I don’t think this is a big rewrite on Schoology's programmer part.  It would be a big help in locating communications and a service to Schoology's clients.

    Thanks for your consideration.

This is a 3-year-old request and there is still no action taken on it. Only 4 of the completed feature requests have more upvotes than this. It has also been 2 years since the last feature request was implemented. Maybe if enough people upvote it will catch someone's attention, but it is looking unlikely right now.

I don't understand how the search feature is not included in messaging. It is nearly impossible to find messages. Why is this taking more than 3 years to fix this technical feature? Please make this a TOP priority.

RIDICULOUS that this feature doesn't exist... my assumption is this company's subscription rate has exploded and they have not been able to 'scale' appropriately... they should use their profits to hire some software engineers to FIX THIS. Just embarrassing to have to use this and not be able to search messages. When the received message goes into my school email, it only shows the most recently sent text by my student, NOT the running thread... yet another problem. C'mon Schoology -- you have to know this is an expectation by your users.

The irony that I can search feature ideas at the top of this page but can't search sent messages is too much. Please add this relatively basic feature.

PLEASE make Schoology messages more similar to email. Not only is it necessary to teacher organization and communication, but it's also necessary to teach students good digital communication habits. Both students and teachers should be able to search, filter, archive, and categorize their messages to stay organized. I have almost 200 students to track, plus their parents. Please consider this a high priority feature.

It is very frustrating that I can not find a message sent and when I do finally have the time to look through every message sent, I try to delete the message because students are sending random crap to everyone, I can't even do that. HELP!!! This problem has been going on far too long for there not to be a solution already.
