Instructor Q&A

Importing from Notability

For the last several months, I have been unable to import a graded paper from Notability into Schoology. I get a notification that the "Comment could not be created. Please try again." But it never works. I really like moving things to Notability and then dropping it back to the student in Schoology. How can I fix this?

Teachers in my school are experiencing the same thing.  They moving things to Notability and then dropping it back to the student in Schoology. However this year they linked their sections and lost this ability.  Can you please help?

Yes! Thank you Heather Casterline! I only have the issue with classes that are linked. The support staff at Schoology has emailed me a couple of times to resolve the issue, but they haven't yet.

Schoology folks, could you look at the issue as it is connected to linked classes?

    So, Charles Black,

How is Schoology coming along with this issue? It's been almost two years since my first post and there has been no progress. It is a pretty big inconvenience.

    Hi Jennifer,

We’ve escalated this issue to our Engineering team, with a priority of Moderate Impact. This means that we understand this function is not working fully as intended, but prioritization of this issue is weighted against more urgent issues and other features we are developing.

In the meantime, we encourage you to save the Notability file as a PDF and upload it to Schoology from your device files, rather than directly from Notability.

For example, from an iOS device (such as an iPad):

    1. From the Notability app, tap the Send To icon in the top left of the file.
    2. Tap Other Apps.
    3. Leave the default settings as is (Format: PDF, etc.).
    4. Tap Share Note
    5. Tap Create PDF
    6. Tap Done
    7. Tap Save File To...
    8. Select Pages
    9. Tap Add
    10. Once the file has finished saving, open the Schoology App.
    11. Navigate to the particular assignment submission.
    12. Tap the Submission Comments icon on the top right.
    13. Tap the + icon.
    14. Tap Attach
    15. Tap Select from iOS Apps
    16. Tap Browse
    17. Select On my iPad
    18. Tap Pages
    19. Select the file saved from Notability.
    20. Write a comment in the text box and click the green check mark.

Please let us know if there is new information about this issue that might change the priority. For example, the issue may impact more customers than you originally reported or affect an area of Schoology that makes this more urgent. If we missed something from you or hear back from other Schoology customers about this issue, and the priority changes, we’ll let you know.

Otherwise, you’ll receive an update from us when the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience.

@Litza  No, you have to do the work-around Yimei Shao posted above.

I too am having this issue; I grade my student math assignments on my ReMarkable device so that I can make comments/corrections on their PDF submitted via Schoology.  But then when I try to move the corrected PDFs to Schoology, the app shows that the media is uploading/uploaded but then tells me "Comment Could Not Be Created."

I've used the work-around but that is tedious and takes so many steps/so much time that its not a viable solution.
