Instructor Q&A

Embedded videos from Google Drive do not play

Hi there all,

We have a handful of teachers who embed video they are storing in Google Drive who are unable to have students play back the content UNLESS they tap the little icon in the top right corner to open in a new window. Content that has been embedded from Youtube works fine. the videos are set so everyone with the link can view, so it isn't a permission issue. We have had a support ticket open since early December and still have not been able to have our issue resolved, so I thought I'd reach out here. This happens both on an iPad in Chrome & Safari, as well as on a macOS laptop in Chrome and Edge. While we can get this to work by having students open in a new window, for our younger learners this can be a bit of a challenge and has lead to a fair amount of confusion.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

    Hi Randy,

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue.

It appears what you are experiencing is a Google Drive limitation. Google Drive supports a maximum of 1920*1080p video resolution. Anything above this resolution won't play unless it's opened in a new tab in Schoology.

I see that you have a ticket open with our Support Team. The Schoology Help Desk has access to tools and information the Schoology Community doesn't have.  So, we suggest following up in the the support ticket to avoid any confusion or redundancy.

I am going to move your post to our Feature Ideas forum so others can upvote your post to show support.

Thanks! One of the videos we are having the issue with is ‪1,280 x 720‬ on the resolution, do I don't believe that is the case, unfortunately.
