I can't see my student's corrections in their true or false question (assessment mode)

Follow

I am scoring an assessment that has some true or false questions that needed correction in case the statement was false. Obviosuly, in the setup, the option "require correction if false" is marked. When I go to the evaluation section, i can see the student's answer (false) but i can't find anywhere it's correction. I checked with the students, and asked them if the platform did prompt them the text box to correct the statement, and they said it did. Please help me, I haven't found any help on the forums nor in in Schoology's support site.

    Hi Alejandro,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

We are currently investigating this as a high impact issue. Our Engineering team will be prioritizing work on this against other urgent issues that may arise, but we hope to have more updates for you soon.

In the meantime, you could use the short answer/essay option for questions that require students to explain why an answer is true or false.

While I do not have an exact time-frame for a resolution, I will update you here with any changes and/or when we have a resolution.

    Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for the quick response. But I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Are you saying that actually it is a bug in the system so that everybody has the same issue? That can't be right, otherwise I would have seen lots of posts talking about this; and there is none. Correction in true or false questions is a typical feature. Meanwhile, I have an assessment to correct, my course ends up in a month, and I can't tell my students that they won't be having that question's points because i just can't see their correction for their answers.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is: is your response an automated or generic response, or are you addressing my specific post? Because I don't see any specific reference to my issue other than to try another question type, so that makes me wonder...

    Hi Alejandro,

I apologize if my original answer did not fully address your inquiry.

Unfortunately, yes, this feature is currently not functioning as it's intended to. Our Engineering team is aware of this and is actively working on this issue. We understand the frustration and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Although it's not ideal, you can consider:

    1. Transferring the True/False questions in the form of Short Answer/Essay questions to a separate assessment, in order to award points for the questions. This would circumvent students having to retake the entire assessment.
    2. Alternatively, you could change the questions (True/False -> Short Answer) in the existing assessment directly, allow resubmissions, and require students to retake the assessment.
    3. Add in a Short Answer question right after the True/False question to explain why the previous question was true or false, allow resubmissions, and require students to retake the assessment.

Please let us know if you have any questions about implementing one of the workarounds, or if you have any further questions.

At this time, I can only offer this information and this workaround. I will update you via this post as soon as there's any change in status.

Thank you again for your patience as we work to resolve this issue.

Thank you very much Yimei, now it is crystal clear, unfortunately. Thank you also for your suggestions. Although well intended, they are not a viable option for me since the students already know the questions, so if they retake them, the results will be misleading.

I was skeptic at your first response, because I really couldn't believe you guys could have this HUGE flaw. And I'm baffled to think I almost told my administrator to consider moving all the course's evaluations to the assessments format (they still use only quiz/test). This flaw plus other lack of features (as the impossibility to respond individually to each essay type question in assessment mode) made me refrain from moving to assessments. Honestly, it seems more at a Beta-like stage.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Alejandro,

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

I'm happy to be able to share with you that this defect has been fixed as of yesterday evening.

The True/False question type should be functioning as intended now.

Thank you for your continued patience.
