Instructor Q&A

Can I make a test resumable for one student?

Is it possible to adjust settings so that a test is resumable for just one student instead of the whole class?

    Hi Leslie,

Thank you for reaching out in the Schoology Community!

There are a few ways to make a Test/Quiz resumable for only one student. (Please note that Schoology Assessments are always resumable, given that the material has been enabled.)

    1. If this is a one-time use scenario, you can create the test/quiz and make a copy. You can individually assign one copy to everyone except the particular student and set it to be non-resumable. Assign the other copy to just the particular student and set it to be resumable. This will create two columns in your Gradebook with the same test/quiz title, but students' overall grades will not be impacted the version of the quiz they didn't take. Since individually assigned materials are only visible to the assignees, the one student will not know that they're taking a different version of the quiz.

    2. If you would like this to be the case for multiple test/quizzes, you can create grading groups. First, create a grading group with everyone but the one student. Then, create the test/quiz and make a copy. Individually assign one copy to the whole grading group and set it to be non-resumable. Individually assign the other copy to the one student and set it to be resumable. This functions the same way as individually assigning without grading groups. The only difference is that you won't have to type out the names of all the other students, just type the name of the group.

See below for an example of what the Gradebook would look like for both of the scenarios listed above. Those not assigned to Group A's copy of the test would have their grade field grayed out and inapplicable. The same goes for Group B's copy.

    3. If the student is taking the quiz at a different time than the rest of the class, you can simply individually assign the quiz to the student and set it to be resumable. After that student has taken the quiz, you can remove the individually assign flag and change the settings back to non-resumable. This method creates only one column in the Gradebook because there is only one instance of the test/quiz.

    I hope this helps!

This workaround is ridiculous. There is no way to give extended time for our many IEP/504 kids. So what I have to do is make. whole new test for one kid? It should be much easier than that. If a kid does not finish a test in time, I should be able to go in a give my +X minutes and hit GO. Schoology needs to fix this. It is a problem.

It's been almost 2 years, and this has not been updated/fixed. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes this could be easier.
