    Hi Ruben!

You can copy your assignments from one course to another by clicking the gear icon and select Copy to courses. You'll have the option to then copy the assignment to any course you manage in Schoology.

Another alternative is to select Save to Resources from the same gear menu. This will save the assignment to Resources, where you can store the assignment and copy from Resources, to other courses. You can even save entire courses to Resources and create copies of course material using this method.

Let us know if these options work for you or if you have any other questions!

Thanks for sharing your question, Ruben.

    Hi Charles,

We created assignments (not to be completed via Schoology) by selecting Submissions Disabled and would like to copy these assignments into multiple teachers' courses. For example, at our school, students work on a contract with different assignments they need to complete. We'd like to create the name of assignments and begin asking teachers to use grade book ONLY to submit a grade for that assignment...but students won't be "turning anything in via Schoology" just checking their progress for the contract course. Instead of having 10 teachers create the same assignment  on grade book, we'd like to create a "master" course and copy it for teachers to make their own. Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi Ruben,

Thank you much for providing more clarification and detail regarding your goals for assignments.

We have a Help Article which details a couple of different approaches to creating and managing assignments that are handed in during class instead of submitted via Schoology. Full details here: https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/208570467-How-can-I-add-grades-for-work-completed-outside-of-Schoology-into-my-Schoology-gradebook. It sounds as though your method of disabling submissions will be the best fit, since you are copying them to other courses.

As for storing those assignments and making them available for teachers, I recommend that you create a Group and enroll or invite all of the participating teachers. Then, you can copy the assignments/grade columns from the course where they are created to the Group Resources. Once there, the teachers within the group can copy the assignments into their respective courses for use.

Let us know if these solutions work for you and your organization!

    Thanks again for your feedback!

That was very helpful. I was able to create a group and have teachers access assignments via Group Resources. My last question is: If these assignments are in categories like chapters, can those be copied over? Or is the teacher just able to get the assignments and have to re-create grading categories? Thanks.

    Hey Ruben,

It is possible to copy categories however, this can only happen from one course to another. What's more, you must be enrolled in both courses as a Course Admin.

Here are the steps to copy setting from one course to another:

    • - Within a course, go to Grade Setup
    • - At the top right corner, click Copy Settings
    • - For Select Setting to Copy, check Categories
    • - Then select the courses you would like to copy categories to.
    • - Click Copy to finish.

It may be just as efficient to have teacher create new Categories within their courses. The Copy Settings feature within Grade Setup will also copy Grading Scales and Rubrics, which is where you may see more value when using this feature.

Let us know how it goes and if you have any other questions.

    Thanks Ruben!
