    Hi Deanne,

While defaulting the Gradebook view by Grading Group is currently not a supported feature, I will be moving this post to Feature Ideas so that others who would like to upvote the idea can search for and find it in our Feature Ideas forum.

If you have some classroom or workflow scenarios that can help us understand how this feature would be used, that would helps us to clearly understand your feature request.

Thank you for sharing your feedback!

    Charles,

My courses are semester-based as far the as the gradebook goes, but students who are joining me second semester show up in the gradebook for first semester. I'd like to have the gradebook default to the current semester group instead of my having to click on the drop-down menu and selecting the group every time (since I use the gradebook at least 5 times a day).

    Hi Deanne,

Thank you for clarifying your question.

It sounds as though you are asking about Grading Periods instead of Grading Groups.

    • - Grading Periods are date ranges in Schoology which determine availability of courses and availability of materials within courses. Each item in your gradebook should be associated with a Grading Period.
    • - Grading Groups are customizable groups of students within a course.

A couple of things to note:

    • - Your course gradebook will automatically display the most current Grading Period by default. Again, this is based on the dates of the Grading Period.
    • - All of the students enrolled in a course will appear in the course gradebook, regardless of Grading Periods.

With these points in mind, if you have different students each semester, we recommend creating separate sections of your course to teach those 2 semesters of students independently.

I highly recommend reaching out to your Schoology Support Contact if you have more questions about how your school uses Grading Periods and how your courses and sections are organized. You can find your Support Contacts by clicking Support at the bottom of any page in Schoology.

    Thank you for your questions!

It is not possible to change the grading periods as the class is a year-long class, but students often have a conflict with the second semester and have to change. This means that I have to use grading groups for each class for each semester. It would be nice if I could default to the grading groups when I open the Gradebook.

Sometimes I have students leave my class.  I want to maintain the work they have done.  I remove them from the class group I have created and move them from my Active Group, to my No Longer Active Group.  It would be nice if my "Active" group would be the default whenever I accessed the gradebook.  Also, when exporting grades, be able to select a group (or set a default group for exporting).
