I'm a teacher and a parent

Follow

I had dabbled a bit with Schoology, and planned to switch to it for my own classroom.  So I have an account created.  Now my son is in middle school and the teachers use it.  I have the access code, but it doesn't have a spot for me to be a teacher, and a parent.  Please help.  I do not want to log in with a different email address, I want to be able to toggle between being a parent and a teacher.

    Hi Carrie,

This is a GREAT question, thank you for sharing it in the Community!

We definitely recommend creating a separate Parent account for your children. We understand that this can be a drag to manage SO, we allow you to link your accounts together! In doing so, you can:

    • - Log into one primary account.
    • - Access both accounts.
    • - Designate one primary email address for all notifications (or not, your choice).

For more information and steps on how to get Account Linking set up, please visit: https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/206125027-How-do-I-Link-Accounts

Let us know if you have any other questions, Carrie!

    Charles,
When you link accounts as both a teacher and a parent, are you able to toggle between those two accounts on the iOS app or is it only one?

    Thanks!

    Charles -

What's the reasoning behind having two separate email accounts and then merging them together? Is there a data privacy aspect that we are not thinking of?

    Thank you!

    Hi Glenn,

Some clarifications/details based on your question:

    • - For Basic Instructors who are also parents, separate accounts that are linked (not merged) are required. Carrie (the original poster) is a Basic Instructor.
    • - For Enterprise Instructors, this depends on your integrated SIS.

If you have an SIS that allows for syncing parent accounts, we recommend two linked accounts as well. As the SIS will provision two accounts by default, one Instructor, one Parent. Linking the two will make managing the accounts much easier, faster and safer.

If you have an SIS that does not actively sync accounts, the optional workaround is to associate students directly with the instructor account. In this scenario, the SIS is only creating and syncing an Instructor account.

    I hope this info help!

    - Charles
