Test/Quiz versus Assessment

Follow

In Test/Quiz I've found that if my key is wrong after kids start taking a Test/Quiz I can go back in, mark the correct answer, and Schoology will re-grade with the new key, and give the students a correct score.

Today I gave my first Assessment. I was using the drop down box with fill in the blank, and so I used the copy feature when building my questions so I didn't have to retype so many times, but I forgot to revise my key on the copy. After the kids began reporting really low grades, I found my mistake. I corrected the answer, but this time, Schoology did not regrade the work that kids had already submitted. Is there a quick way to do this, without have to go look at every question for every kid? or having the kids redo the Assessment?

    Hello Kathleen,

The ability for Assessments to auto-regrade is currently not available in Schoology.

Please keep an eye on our Product Roadmap and click Follow at the top of the page to be notified when new features become available!

    Thank you!

I agree Lisa.  This is one thing that is keeping me from using assessments.  Charles, hopefully this is coming soon!  As of today, I am not seeing this problem solved, correct?

Yes!  This is a LIFE-SAVER in Test/Quiz and needs to be included in the functionality of Assessments before T/Q goes away.

I don't see this on the roadmap!?!?  This is a challenge with 130+ student tests to adjust one at a time.  PLEASE make this a priority!

Agreed.  I just now discovered this and it must be a feature.  If you're lucky, you will have an observant student find the mistake early. I honestly am sad to see the old Test/Quiz feature disappear because I like it much better than the Assessments feature.  Currently, the big things I hate about the Assessments feature compared to the Test/Quiz Feature:

Drag and drop matching is annoying at best.  Matching also does not shuffle the questions in Assessments.  In addition, the setup was much easier in Test/Quiz: input question and answer as a matched set and it would shuffle automatically.

Scoring of quizzes is now seriously laggy.  My students were used to getting instant feedback.  Now, every time they take a quiz they think there is something wrong (they missed everything, or it did not accept their responses).  I have to remind them that it takes a minute or so for the new system to score and update.

No option for random questions from a test bank.  While I haven't used this recently, I liked the option of having a set of similar questions that the system would randomly choose from so different students got different, but similar, tests.  For that matter, I don't even see an option yet to simply import individual questions from the test banks I already have created (mostly from converting/uploading textbook question banks).

That said, I do like the new multiple choice question editing.  I like being able to see all of the options to edit formatting for answer options without having to open a separate text editor for each option.

    Hi David,

    Thank you for your feedback!

Please consider providing an upvote and/or comment to this pre-existing Feature Idea for shuffling questions in Matching. You may also want to submit your own Feature Idea with specifics on how you would like to see Assessments improved. Please see this article on how to write a good Feature Idea: Welcome to Schoology Feature Ideas!

Schoology encourages instructors to utilize Assessments as we continuously add more features. While the long-term plan for Schoology is to enhance Course Assessments and phase out the Test/Quiz feature, we want to ensure a seamless transition for everyone using our original testing feature. At this time, we decided to take Question Banks for Assessments out of the research and planning stage of our development process.

We recommend that you click Follow on each section of the Product Roadmap to stay up to date on other key features we're building:

Thank you for your understanding and for your help making Schoology even better!

    Hi Yimei,

Can you please elaborate about the decision to "take Question Banks for Assessments out of the research and planning stage of our development process"?

Does this mean that Question Banks for Assessments is moving forward into the < In Development > stage, or that Schoology is eliminating Question Banks for Assessments as an upcoming Assessment feature at the present time?

In my opinion, the latter would be highly detrimental to a seamless transition from Test/Quiz to Assessments.  Thanks for sharing any additional information you have.

    Sincerely,

    Jon Courtney

    Hi Jon,

    Thank you for your feedback!

I understand your concerns regarding Question Banks for Assessments. Although we've taken it out of the research and planning stage of our development process, this does not mean that we are not going to implement it. It just means that we aren’t working on it at this moment. We understand how integral question banks are to any testing experience, and we’ll be implementing Question Banks for Assessments before the Test/Quiz is retired.

The Product Roadmap is meant to be a snapshot of what we are actively working on at a given point in time - but like everything else in life, even the best-laid plans are subject to change. Since the research and planning for Question Banks for Assessments is on-hold, we wanted to remove it from the Product Roadmap so users are not confused about what Schoology is currently developing. That is the ultimate purpose of having a public roadmap - keeping our users up-to-date on what our team is working on right now.

Since there are several features that we want to add to Course Assessments before retiring Test/Quiz, we recommend that you click Follow on each section of the Product Roadmap to stay up to date on other key features we're currently building:

    I hope this clarifies things!

It's been over a year since this thread was started, but I still do not see the auto-regrade option available for assessments.  I'm hoping to bump this thread back to active so this feature can be added.  There seems to be some adjustments to corrections, but it's very inconsistent at best.
