Delete Assignment Submissions

Follow

Sometimes students post/upload to the wrong assignment. I would like there to be a way that I can delete their submission, similar to how I can delete a test/quiz submission.

I would love to be able to transfer in an assignment when a student sends it either via message or to the wrong task.

Agreed! Especially as they are first getting used to schoology, there are many wrong files uploaded. Being able on either end to delete these would be a HUGE improvement to this system.

Agreed, or at least send it back to them or transfer it to the correct assignment.  The biggest problem for me is the notification that I need to grade a submission that is not a valid submission, plus the student thinks they have submitted to that assignment.  They cannot see my comments unless they open the submission.  Very few middle school students would do this when they think they have already done the work.

Agree..this kind of drives me nut's how many 'tests' show up in submissions..need to be able to delete these and the user should have the ability to delete their own mistakes as well!

I just searched for how to do this same thing and there are several threads about this going back over a year! Any updates?

I agree.  I teach ninety 8th grade students per marking period and I would love the ability to delete or move assignments that are not in the correct submission place.  I even had one of my students try to delete an old assignment that wasn't in the correct spot and he couldn't do it.  I end up wasting a lot of time going through assignments that can not be graded.

Provide ability to delete by both students and teachers or you will loose users.

PLEASE add this.  This was extremely easy to do in Google Classroom, and my teachers were even able to see if I unsubmitted, so editing assignments after the deadline was never a concern.  If basic tasks like unsubmitting are still missing from this very non-user friendly platform, I hope more schools will switch from schoology to google classroom, rather than making my school's mistake of coming to schoology.  Please save my teachers at least some of the headaches involved with learning your platform and make sure that we can fix our mistakes when we accidentally submit an assignment several times.  Please also word things better, as it appears that resubmitting does not replace the first submission, but just adds a second document.

I’m another teacher Connor and not on the Schoology team. Good on you for commenting. I agree with your main point - even if it’s just teachers who delete. But being able to add cumulative versions is actually helpful. That way in the one tasks students can submit a draft and final, or even different aspects sourced differently eg file from computer, video from phone etc. If a student asked me to ignore their first submission I’d have no problem.

@Conner Hetman - Thank you for providing feedback as a Student using Schoology! We love to hear from you, keep it coming!

@Mr. Maas - Thanks for providing your view as an Instructor using submissions. Very happy that revisions are useful in this case.

@Everyone - Keep the support for this feature coming, and keep an eye on our Product Roadmap for updates on new Features!

    @Mr. Black,

Thank you for the response.  I too agree  with Mr. Maas that the revision feature could be very handy when you want to see changes, but I just wanted to put it out there that for schools where both teachers and students are still learning the platform, it can be very confusing when you want to fix something.  I was trying to look at an attachment before posting it to make sure it was formatted correctly, and I accidentally submitted it.  I unfortunately had some errors to fix still, and I was hoping that I could get rid of the first submission.  One thing that could be a good solution is to make resubmitting like saving a file to your computer, where if you try to save two files with the same name, it asks you if you would like to keep the old document and rename the new one or replace the old file. Hopefully, my teachers and I will learn the many features in this platform soon, and small mistakes will no longer cause big problems. Thank you for your help.

    Hey Connor,

EXCELLENT feedback! Thanks again for your perspective, it is VERY valuable to us.

If you are submitting via the Create tab in an assignment, I wanted to make sure you are aware that you can use Save Draft to store the current state of a submission and return to it later, all without submitting the assignment. One more little tool that may help you in the future!

When you return to the assignment, you'll see Edit Draft instead of Submit or Re-Submit Assignment.

I like your idea of making resubmitting like saving a file to your computer. That makes sense to me!

This feature has lots of support so, I'm hopeful that our team will seriously consider it as a feature in the future.

    Thanks again!

Thank you very much.  That is how I should do things in the future.  My problems came from not knowing how to upload a google doc.  I converted it to a word doc and messed some things up while trying to check the formatting.  I am glad I could help, and hopefully this will be a feature sometime soon!

I need a way to remove/delete student assignments once they are submitted. I had a class of students complete an assignment that they weren't ready to complete. I know they can submit a second submission but I want to get rid of the first one.

    Help!

Can you please add a delete submission if students accidentally submitted an assignment to the worn place. I would really appreciate it. I am begging you.

PS... Can I talk to the manager of Schoology please...

So, I see all kinds of great things in the Product Roadmap. AMP improvements, peer review, student choice activities, etc. - but nothing on this request. Is this a less important feature request than these others? As a former software engineer, I'd be surprised that adding a delete feature for submissions would be trickier or more resource-consuming than scanning printed assessments. I love Schoology and hate to post something with this negative tone, but enough already - my firstborn for a delete submission button!
