Import test questions

Follow

If someone doesn't have access to ExamView or Blackboard, how can he or she import questions into Schoology???

It would be fantastic if we could use Word tables (like the moodle app) or a .csv file to import (including embedded images) questions.

You may have to slightly reformat your existing tests but you could:
    1) Create a Blackboard test file at http://www.csi.edu/blackboard/bbquiz/

    see documentation at http://www.csi.edu/blackboard/bbquiz/doc.asp
    2) Create a new test/quiz in Schoology
    3) Click the Add Questions button
    4) Select the option to Import Test/Quiz
    5) Select import Blackboard test
Note: When downloading the test file created in step one, save it in ZIP format; do not unzip it.

Ugh, yet another feature Schoology only vaguely supports--or not at all. Add it to the list, along with automating badges for assignment completion. Importing questions from, say, a text or spreadsheet file just seems like a given.

    Kelsey,

Your suggestion that you need enough upvotes before you will fix this reminds me of the facebook posts saying they will cure this little girls cancer if they get enough likes. Seriously, I have all of my tests written in word documents. When I had Edline I could just copy and paste these questions into a field and it took them in. Now I am spending multiple plan periods trying to get the third party my district suggested:

    http://www.csi.edu/blackboard/bbquiz/

to make a zip file, but find that schoology corrupts about 1/3 of the imported questions. When I find an error, all I can do is delete the test and try again. This seems to me like it would be a basic service.

I agree, that the importation and sharing of quiz/test questions should be a given. This feature on Schoology would be a huge resource for teachers.  If we could easily create and share questions, we could save countless hours of tedious work. What could be the reason for not making this a top priority?

I created a Blackboard test file.  The option to 'Import Test/Quiz' does not show up for me as described below.

    Kelsey,

I too can not find the option to import a test or quiz as described in the comment above.  That must have been available in the past (1/10/2017).  See the link below for a video tutorial showing this feature.  Can you please tell us how to import a test or quiz now that this feature is diabled?

    Hi (again) Cory,

The process for importing Test/Quiz questions, as described by Mr. Boennighausen above, begins within a Test/Quiz in Schoology. Typically, you'd by creating a new Test/Quiz within a course, then follow these steps:

    To import a test/quiz:

    1. 1. Go to the course to which you want to import the test/quiz.
    2. 2. Add a test/quiz to the course. (Add Materials > Add Test/Quiz)
    3. 3. Click on the name of the test/quiz to enter it.
    4. 4. Click the Add Questions button and then select Import Test/Quiz.
    5. 5. Select the system from which the file was exported. (in this case: Blackboard)
    6. 6. Click Next, and upload the file to Schoology.
    7. 7. Click Import to complete.

    Hi Charles,

That all looks great and is the same as the video link that I provided in my post.  However, that 'Import Test/Quiz' is not in my drop down menu.  Here is a screen clipping showing that it is not there.

As you can tell from the questions I have been posting, I am eager to build my courses, but I keep running into various roadblocks to what I want to accomplish.

    Charles,

I figured it out.  It was the bad advice from our webinar trainer.  I was trying to build my test/quiz in the Resources area.  When you do that, the Import Test/Quiz is not an option.  When I create the test/quiz in the Courses area, then this option is available.

I will no longer try to build my courses in the resources area and then copy to my courses.  I will create the course in the course area and then periodically copy to the Resources and hope most things copy.

    Sigh ...

    Hi Cory!

Very happy that you figured that one out! I hope you have smooth sailing from this point on. If not, we are here and happy to help!

Thanks again for sharing your journey with the Community, it will help others who go through the same process each and every school term.
