Children's Calendar features needed for ease of parent access

Follow

Greetings-
Two of the most helpful features in the Schoology calendar tool are 1. the ability to color-code calendar items, and 2. the ability to export calendars via iCal link. Currently, these features only work for teachers and students. Not for parents who are viewing their children.

These features would be extremely beneficial to add to children's calendars; especially for parents of multiple children. It is true that you can toggle on/off sibling accounts to only see one child, but it would be much more helpful to have color coding options to change each child's courses/events to a different color.

I would also really like to see the calendar export feed added to children's accounts. While parents can log into Schoology to view the calendar, it would be much faster for the Schoology calendar to export to iCal so parents could add existing events to their work/personal calendar tools. Our only way to do this currently is to have students (or parents) log into their student account, obtain & copy the calendar link, and email it to their parents. That is pretty high level tech usage to expect of parent users, that could be easily simplified by just adding the export button to the children's calendars.

Thanks for your consideration.

Not to put any pressure on Schoology, but Canvas does this...hint, hint, hint...

Moreover, it there should be an option to export just a subset of a student's calendar to iCal. Right now a student's calendar is a merged version of all the course and group calendars the student has joined. However, a parent (or student) may want to export just one or two of the group calendars (for example, after school activities).

I would add that teachers, too, would like the ability to export a single group calendar rather than the entire merged calendar.

I have lots of parents who want to be able to export their student calendars. Seems a simple thing to ask and really something that is necessary. If other tools do this, like Canvas, we may have to entertain those solutions.

I also agree to the other suggestions, to be able to export certain "layers" of your calendar - rather than an all-or-nothing type approach to the export.

I would also like to see the color-coding option.

All of these features (color-coding, toggling on and off, iCal export) are basic parts of virtually every cloud-based calendaring solution. As a new user to Schoology, I am, frankly, shocked that they are not present.

I've read that one option (cough...work-around...cough) is to 'ask your child to login and provide you with the iCal link to their calendar'....but this does not solve this challenge for parents who have K thru ~5th Grade students who don't have a login to Schoology.

A new parent to Schoology; it's 2018 and I have not seen an export feature to my parent view of Student's calendar.  Is this a feature by chance now, 4 years later?  I desperately hope so for my child who needs some parent support with due dates.

Please allow import/export of student calendars for parents. Many are requesting this feature.
