Live Sync with Power School

Follow

When using the new Gradebook Beta, we are still experiencing difficulties with the syncing process for PowerSchool. The Beta is functioning more consistently than it was the first couple of weeks. Now it saves regularly, but it is not always syncing to Power School. This is especially true of assignments that already have grades. For example, if I record a 0 for a student who didn't turn his assignment on time, it syncs to Power School with a 0. However, if the same student turns in the assignment late and I grade it, then when I replace the 0 in the Beta, it only replaces the grade here. It does not re-sync with Power School. The only way I can get the new score in Power School is to manually sync. Another example of a sync issue is when I begin recording grades for a class, and then I have to stop because a new class period is beginning. When this happens, the first set of grades sync, but when I finish recording the rest of the scores they won't automatically sync. In order for those second set of scores to sync, I have to do a manual sync.

My question is: why is the sync only "live" some of the time for some of the assignments.

My suggestion would be: A "live" sync needs to sync scores every every time regardless of when it was entered or if it was replaced.

I agree with this comment completely. The syncing happens randomly. What I usually do, is sync them manually on the Sync Grades page, but it also has a problem... that page doesn't show which section (group) is the one being shown, and when trying to sync aaaall the groups and grades, one may get lost by not knowing which group was already synchronize and which one not.

Agreed! Should "live" sync always. I haven't tracked it so much, but I think that we have to do manual sync whenever the due date has passed. I think it "live" syncs up until the due date. Again, haven't tracked it, but that is my hunch based on my experience with the gradebook recently.

Agree. This is HURTING us! I have reported it, and was told to install the PowerApp for teachers and have them manually sync the grades if changes are made. Teachers are hating this. It adds to workload and is really damaging perceptions about Schoology. If it doesn't change: I will not be recommending that we renew Schoology.

We are also having issues with Live Syncing (same as those mentioned above). When teachers try to manually sync, the are getting a message about the sync being added to a queue. In the admin control panel, I see that I can choose "Manually" or "Scheduled" but not both. I would like to know if this is part of the issue.

In addition to all of the above, last year, a "missing assignment" tag in Schoology used to sync with PS (so that the assignment showed up as missing in PS).  This year it is not.  This has caused some serious grief.  Please put that back.
