Integration with "locked down" browser for quizzes/tests

Follow

We would love to see Schoology integration with either Respondus Lockdown Browser or Software Secure -- both tools let you give tests/quizzes in a "locked" browser mode and students can't open other tabs, use Google, other apps, etc.

Both tools are available for integration with LMS products and have APIs that Schoology could use.

Yes, please. This has become a significant issue with assessments in Schoology...as teachers use this feature more students become more adept at working around it by having tabs open and searching for answers...they are quick at hiding tabs as teachers walk their way.

Yes, please. The answer to this should be "Duh, of course you can lock the screen for quizzes!" I really wouldn't care to give actual quizzes via Schoology for the obvious lack of security. (I consider the "quiz" function to be a practice exercise only.)

My school is in the process of selecting an LMS. If a lockdown option does not exist then I will probably recommend against schoology versus a platform like Canvas.

As students become more savvy at cheating, having a locked down browser is so important. There is a long list of competitive LMS' that already have this functionality. Please add this to Schoology!

I'll advocate for this too... Any movement on this? Currently, the assessment engine is quite limited compared to other LMSs. While Schoology seems to be making strides toward advanced features, a simple Lockdown Browser integration would be a huge step forward.

If locking the app is too difficult, I'd at the least appreciate a function that notifies teachers if students take a screenshot (similar to Snapchat) or leave the app.

It would definitely be a bonus for those of us who would like to see Schoology used throughout our district. The lack of a lockdown browser is a key factor inhibiting many of our staff from trying it.

I agree (and posted on a similar discussion topic) that this is a need.

Yes, please! A lockdown browser is so needed for quizzes. My kids are using Chromebooks, and you can't even tell if they have another window minimized for cheating purposes.

This free Chromebook app was developed by Cherry Creek SD in CO for exactly this purpose; it launches Schoology in single app mode, so if a student tries to browse the web or leave Schoology, it sends them back to the log-in screen. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/schoology-kiosk-app/bhgfiigjikmhcnmoobmieaabmbhnalof

I just tried the Schoology Kiosk App and is there a way to truly lock out another browser window? I was able to open the Kiosk app with Chrome running and simply Alt-Tab back and forth between the Kiosk and the Chrome Browser.

Yes, is this closer to a possibility? I have teachers asking for this!

The Respondus Lockdown Browser integration is supposed to go live Feb. 2, 2016. It will only be available for Enterprise customers and they will have to have purchased a license from Respondus. It will allow you to use the Lockdown Browser and Respondus Monitor if you have a license for those products.
