Transferring students from one section to another

Follow

Currently you cannot transfer a student and all their work/grades from one course or section to another. You have to un-enroll them and ask them to enroll in the new course or section - this deletes all work and grades from the previous course. I have numerous students who switch sections at the semester and would like to maintain the work they have already done.

I have the same problem as above. I teach the same course for 4 periods and sometimes students get witched from one period to another. Does anyone know the best way to transfer students grades and work from one period to another?

This is a BASIC function for a gradebook. If it isn't built in, it needs to be the #1 priority for the development team.

This is a HUGE issue for Schoology users because many students in High School get schedule changes at the end of the Fall semester due to extracurriculars, etc. We must have a way for students to keep their grades, projects, etc from the fall semester class into the spring semester class in another period.

This is a MAJOR issue, especially among high school students that may move from one section to another due to schedule changes or conflicts. This really should be a basic function, so please add this capability to fix the problem. Thank you!

I am also having this same issue. We periodically shift students in and out of different sections of the same course in order to change classroom dynamics and influence behavior. I would love to be able to 'copy' one (or several) student's information from one section and be able to 'paste' it into the other section of this class. Can someone provide some assistance/guidance on how to do this within Schoology? This should be a basic feature of any grade book.

Schoology folks, this should be a high-priority request! Is it possible to merge or link these threads in the Community Forums? There are several, but I always end up using multiple search terms to hunt them down and vote them ALL up! The "related questions" do not really seem related (feels like a history of my searches.)

I would add to the chorus of voices asking for a function that allows teachers to transfer students from one section to another. In the fall, students make course and/or level changes and we should be able to put them where they belong on the admin side.

Found out about this issue the hard way - my guidance counselor changed two schedules in our SIS (eSchoolPLUS), which syncs daily with Schoology. Lo and behold, next morning, all of their grades are missing from their Schoology courses.

There was a work-around, though it is definitely not practical for large groups, or even more than a handful of students at a time. From Schoology support:

"...when students are transferred from one course to another, their grades and submissions are not transferred with them. However, if you manually enroll the student back into their old course, their grades will re-populate into the Gradebook. Then, you can export the Gradebook for that course by clicking the gear icon along the top of the Gradebook and selecting Export. Remove the other students from the file, and then import the file into the student's new course using the Gradebook>gear icon > Import. Once you have completed this, you can once again remove the student from their old course."

I AGREE - I think this should be a top priority. It doesn't make sense that this can't happen!!!!!!

Many teachers are now creating 1 course to be used by multiple periods because they love grading groups for differentiation. But students can't be moved from group to group because grades don't follow them. This is imperative for Schoology to add the ability for grades to follow students across courses and grading groups.

Yes, please. This is imperative. Thank you.

You are able to see the grades for students who have left the class by visiting the Members area then clicking on Inactive. This works for already graded assignments but there isn't an easy way to get to submissions that haven't been graded. It would be ideal that, perhaps, through that same Inactive view that you could access all the information submitted by that student.

It is not possible to carry-over student work that is done directly on Schoology (such as tests) into another course. This is quite a problem for our students because we require specific presentations to be viewed and tests to be done in a certain order. Thus, student must re-do all the work in the new course. Not the best solution at all. We can use over-ride to transfer their grade for tests, but then they cannot review their answers.

I'm surprised that after 2 years this feature has not been added. Imagine the teacher who had 12 students with a schedule change at the change of the semester.

We just had several teachers whose classes were collapsed or moved from one period to another and thus all of the grades that have been inputted over the last several weeks have disappeared. I know that you can complete the work-around by adding the members again and then retrieving their grades that way, but this is time consuming and very impractical on a large scale. What do we need to do to be able to see a "transfer" grade without going through all these steps or better yet transfer the student percentage over a as an 'individually" assigned grade?

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of frustration. A student moved sections and now all grades seem to be lost from last section. Given we are on a sync, I see no inactive option.

This is a must.  Students have schedule changes at the semester switch and sometimes after 2-3 weeks they change courses or sections and will lose everything.  Please fix this!

I agree that this vital functionality should be the #1 priority for the development team. I understand that it may be difficult to implement for non-linked sections, which don't necessarily share the same assignments and gradebook setup. However, it should be possible to implement this functionality for linked sections, at least. Please prioritize this vital functionality!
