Ability to hide the Overall grade column in the Gradebook

Follow

At our school, marking period grades are the preferred view in the Gradebook. Posting the overall grade before the year's end causes confusion. I would like to see a way to hide the "Overall" column in the Gradebook!

Has there been any progress on this issue?

Yes please! We have gradebooks turned off schoolwide until this feature arrives.

I would also like to have many more functions in the gradebook - hiding columns, sorting by columns, flagging of late work and an ability to deduct a percentage within the gradebook, generation of histograms to see how students performed as a group on assignments... many of the basic functions available in a program like Easy Grade Pro.

Yes! I would also love to see this as an option. At the moment, the only way I have worked around it is to deselect semester/term. That way, it won't calculate an overall grade and shows as N/A.

Please fix this, allow teachers to control which columns show up.

I'm using a point system for a la carte units and all I want is a column to sum their points.

Overall and Semester averages should both be hide-able. As well as being able to enter grades and then choosing to make the grades visible. Assignment visibility and grade visibility should be separate toggles.

This is especially a problem since the overall grade is the first grade a parent sees when they look at their child's grades. We just started the second quarter. If a student does something like not turning in a homework assignment and gets a zero, then his second quarter grade is instantly a zero, and his overall grade drops - if he got 90 in the first quarter, his overall grade is suddenly a 45/F. Parents understandably freak out when they login and the first thing they see is that Johnny is failing a course. It would be best if we could hide overall grades, or at least if the default grade which is visible would be the current quarter grade.

    That link looks dead, Brad.

I would also like to see a way to hide that overall grading column since our school has year long courses that have three separate grading periods.

Also need to be able to hide individual grade columns without unpublishing the assignment!

How do you hide the overall grade column?  Has there been any movement on this?

Paul, the updated link for the article Bradley shared can be found here: https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/215633118-Grade-Set-Up-Final-Grade-Setting.

Kristy, the instructions to hide the overall grade column are in the same article above!

    Hope that helps.

This does not hide the OVERALL GRADE column in the grade book. Just from the student grade report.

It's very confusing to have the overall grade column in the grade book, and it resulted in two incorrect student report cards in my class. Please, please, enable the ability to hide this.

    Hello All,

If the current ability to hide the overall grade column doesn't fit your needs, please create a new Feature Idea that follows the Community Guidelines.

Thank you for your help making Schoology even better!

With all due respect, Charles, I don't believe that this feature was completed as requested by Julie initially. Teachers can hide the overall grades from a student report but cannot hide the overall grade column from the instructor's gradebook view as you suggest.

Ms. Yoon stated, "At our school, marking period grades are the preferred view in the Gradebook. Posting the overall grade before the year's end causes confusion. I would like to see a way to hide the "Overall" column in the Gradebook!" (formatting added by me.)

This option is not currently available in the grade setup as described in the post above by Product Engagement.

Do you suggest we copy Julie's initial post and paste it into a new feature request following the Community Guidelines you posted?

Perhaps I am missing something in the article posted, so I thank you for your continued support and clarification!

    Hey Paul,

I can understand how the current feature to Hide Overall Grades and the description of this post can cause some confusion.

I will highlight that the issue that Julie originally points to is: 'Posting the overall grade before the year's end causes confusion". The audience of the confusion are students and parents and that is the issue that the current feature resolves. We received a lot of feedback along with tickets from teachers and schools who wanted to hide overall grades because they themselves were getting a lot of feedback and confusion from students and parents. While this feature may not be a perfect fit for all users, it has resolved issues for teachers and schools who want to reduce confusion for their community. A good example of this is Rod Kirby's comment in this thread (above).

As an Enterprise school, I recommend that you create a ticket with our Support Team that provides a detailed description of the feature you have in mind, along with use cases or scenarios that will help our team understand the problem(s) that your idea is solving. That ticket will then be routed to the appropriate folks within Schoology who will advocate for your request and aggregate any other Enterprise level requests to organize and promote features into our Product Roadmap.

Thanks for clarifying your idea, we hope to hear from you soon!
