Ability to submit a link in the Assignment dropbox

Follow

Lately, several of my classes' assignments have been created on Web 2.0 programs such as Animoto where the created product can be turned in as a link. The problem I have run into is that the dropbox only accepts files - could you add a "add a link" under the add a file so that files and linked files can be turned in under assignments.

    Perhaps I am misunderstanding.

My students submit linked files via dropbox: open the 'create' tab; paste link; submit.

Yes please make this a feature, I switched from Edmodo to Schoology for my undergrad tech class. They have to submit blogs and various other web work, and the submit a link is very sorely missed.

I have my students go to the dropbox, paste the link in the comment section then turn in a random picture file to get the file to be entered - but I agree - the ability for them to attach a link to an external site where they created a project would be awesome.

I also switched over from Edmodo and miss this feature. TTP

Has there been any progress on this? I would really like to switch my college course back from Edmodo to Schoology but desperately need them to be able to submit links as assignments without it going to the document preview.

We have found 2 workarounds that work pretty well.
    1. When they go to turn in an assignment, have them turn in a "junk" file - any file on their computer - a spare picture, a blank document..., then paste the link in the comment section (you have to have a file or it won't load). When you go to grade, the link is live in the right hand comment pane.

    1. Have the students go to turn the assignment in. Choose the create tab - the second choice over, between upload and resources. Have them choose the link icon, paste the link there. This will come up in the document preview as a live link. (see Mrs. B's earlier suggestion to this post)

Both ways make it easy to grade because I found the same issue, but these workarounds pretty much solved it and the kids have no problems turning links in. Hope this helps --- I have found the kids can find things easier in Schoology due to the file structure as compared to Edmodo where assignments kept getting pushed down the wall.

I do as Mrs. B suggests by having students go to the "Create" tab, but I think the process could be more user friendly. Edmodo's feature for submitting links is much more like what we need in Schoology.

We are having the same issue, and I have just had the kids make a "live" link using the link tool as Susan suggests... it would be nice if a pasted URL was automatically live!

There is a Feature Request thread that I encourage you to vote on. It's called "direct upload link to turn in assignment" More votes are needed!
