Password-protected tests/quizzes

Follow

I would like to put my make-up tests on Schoology, but I need more control over who is taking the test, and when. Cheating can run rampant in high school. If I can protect each test with its own password, then only students who come to my classroom at an appointed time will be able to access it. This way, my tests cannot be printed and distributed.

    Hi, all -

Thank you for your continued patience and helpful feedback on password protection for tests. I'm pleased to announce that we've released the ability to require a password for assessments. For Enterprise instructors who are using assessments in courses or AMP, you can use this feature now!

Basic users, stay tuned for more information on Assessments and when they will be available to you. We've been working hard on new features to make our Assessments the best solution for testing in Schoology. Check out our June Release Notes for more info!

If there's something you're waiting to see before you make the move to Assessments, you can follow our Product Roadmap to see changes coming down the pipeline. As always, you can post in our Community forums with any specific questions or ideas.

    Best,

why don't you just assign the make up test to the individual students you want to have take the test?  It's at the bottom under advanced options.  The three little circles.

I would like the password option as well.  I have had a student who was not present in class during a test, log in from home and take the test as an open-book, open-internet test.  Of course, I caught this when I went to access the grades, because I knew he had not been there in class.  But the test itself had already been compromised.

This is something I was able to do in Moodle for every test. When you are running a more mastery based classroom and have students coming to retake tests throughout the school day, having to drop everything to individually assign the test again will be frustrating and take time away from other important tasks.

This would really be helpful. It is frustrating to have to use Quia or another online platform for the sake of giving tests.

I, too, would like to password protect the exam so a student would have to be in the classroom to learn what the password is before taking.

This feature was used in Blackboard by our virtual school teachers very often. It was a way of having the students take a pause and contact the teacher. This is very much a needed feature for us.

I have asked for this in the past as well. Several other LMS have this feature. Please add this ASAP! This is a much needed feature which would seem simple to add.

When I post a test for a particular class, I want to be able to set a password so that the class can not go into the test and begin before I have given the class instructions for taking the test, making accommodations for special ed students etc. When I am ready to begin proctoring, I can tell them the password and then everyone can begin at the same time. This is an ESSENTIAL FEATURE FOR TEST SECURITY.

This would be very helpful, if not essential. Adding the names of students who are assigned the test takes an enormous amount of time. Simply let me password protect a quiz and then give it out, and/or change it as necessary.

I definitely would love this feature! Right now, my school uses Haiku, which is basically the same as Schoology, except that Schoology is free! I want to make the switch to Schoology, but I want to wait until tests can be password-protected like they are on Haiku.

Almost three years. Just starting to use Schoolgy this year and our old LMS had this option for longer than that....

Just as an added extra, if it isn't going to be functionality of the native schoology system. Respondus used to have a password protection option.  So if you enabled respondus (which is great for added protection) you would also get the password to initiate the exam.

Thanks Jonathon. It doesn't solve the problem as many schools may not have opted to pay the additional $ for Respondus and it currently does not work with Chromebooks.

It is distressing to me to see that the date on this first post is from 2013 with no progress on this problem.

I have a class of a few hundred students. We want to make sure those students are taking their own tests, so we require them to show ID. This is defeated if they can take all of the tests from home.

We have tried workarounds with a pretest before the test and have had many errors because it was not designed to be used this way. Links in the calendar that lead directly to tests, and the ability of students to start the test even when locked.

This is a major failing that will affect my recommendation on whether we should continue with schoology for another year.
