New Assessment is not better than Quiz/Test tool yet

Follow

The New assessment tool is not better than the old Quiz/Test option:

  • The new assessment tool is not math user friendly
  • The math features are there, but they're very slow compared to the "old" quiz/test math options
  • Copy/Paste from Word is not an option anymore when trying to use any math functions
  • When creating an assessment, the set up field is not giving the "resumable for students" option any more.
  • When creating a Question, the new assessment doesn't have the "insert media" option anymore.
  • You cannot insert your own video, unless you use a youtube video, copy the "embed code" and paste it in the "source" using HTML
  • The feedback to the students after an assessment is graded, is buried in the "rubric" bubble? And even when you write your feedback, the student is not able to view it?
  • Unless all the above is corrected, and improved, please DO NOT discontinue the old Quiz/Test option.

    Hello Everyone!

We've heard you loud and clear, and we're working hard to provide more robust features within Assessments. Today, we released 3 new improvements to help you bring a richer, more dynamic experience to assessments for your learners.

    • - We have added the ability to directly upload audio/video files to the stimulus and rich text responses of assessment questions in both course and managed assessments.
    • - The ability to upload images to question response options and set image dimensions using pixels.
    • - Embed new tools (such as a calculator, ruler, or protractor).

But wait, there's more on the way! Be sure to follow our Product Roadmap for new release goodies!

When creating an assessment, the set up field is not giving the "resumable for students" option any more.

-What would happen if a student has to log off without finishing?

When creating a Question, the new assessment doesn't have the "insert media" option anymore.

-Yikes! A few teachers here include videos in the old test/quiz option

Additionally, we notice that we cannot comment on individual questions. This is a dealbreaker for a lot of our teachers here.

There has also been a feature request (I believe it has been the top 3 voted) for an option for students to ONLY redo problems they've missed on 2nd and 3rd attempts. We need this feature.

Unless all the above is corrected, and improved, please DO NOT discontinue the old Quiz/Test option.  Agreed

I hope this doesn't break the rules of posting about features, but I'm just adding to the above post: the copy/paste function is not available in general. Our teachers would like to be able to copy/paste from other documents or from the web to the question and then resize upon pasting.

I agree with all of the above!

Also, I would like to see the ability to message students from the STUDENT ATTEMPTS "panel"/"tab" on the assessment setup form, perhaps by just clicking on their name? This would allow me to message my students directly to give them feedback on the assessment as well as encourage them to take/retake it if necessary.

    Thank you!

The new number line tool does not have the feature to add images (or math) for each possible response.

The Square root of 50 looks like √50

Need to be able to add images/math.

This is very important to testing security.  This option made it so that students could not leave the test and return to the test.  The only option right now is for Assessments to be resumable, which is a problem.

    Hi Jamie,

Is it possible that you are referring to the Resumable setting for Test/Quizzes? This setting allows students to resume an incomplete submission, it will not, however,  prevent students from leaving and entering a Test/Quiz.

This type of resumable functionality is currently not available in Assessments. If you'd like to suggest that the addition of this feature to Schoology, please create a Feature Request here: https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

If you are looking for testing security tools to prevent students from accessing areas outside of Schoology during testing, we recommend Respondus Lockdown Browser, which integrates with Schoology.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, let us know if you have any other questions.
