This article covers the supported file types and size limits in all areas of Schoology in which you can upload files.

Attaching Files to Materials & Updates

The Attachments toolbar is on the bottom of the Description field when you create or edit an update or materials (Assignment, Discussion, Page, and Test/Quiz) in Courses, Groups, or Resources.

While there is no limit to the number of files you can attach, you must upload each file individually. Schoology has a size limit of 512 MB per file.

Inserting Content into Your Materials & Updates

The Insert Content tool is available in the Description field toolbar when you create or edit an update or materials (Assignment, Discussion, Page, and Test/Quiz) in Courses, Groups, or Resources.

While there is no limit to the number of files you can insert, you must upload each file individually. The maximum file size is 100MB per file.

Course Materials: Assessments

Course administrators and assessment authors may add image and media content to a question stimulus and a question response.

Uploading Images to Assessment Questions

There is a file size limit of 512KB for uploaded image files.

Uploading Audio/Video Files to Assessment Questions

There is a file size limit of 5MB for audio files and 100MB for video files.

File Upload: Enhanced Question Type

Students may upload files in their submissions on File Upload question type in assessments.

There is a file size limit of 100MB for uploaded files.

Course Materials: Assignments

Doc Viewer

Students can upload files to their submission via the Schoology Doc Viewer. While there is no limit to the number of files you can attach, you must upload each file individually. Schoology has a size limit of 512 MB per file.

Note: The submission viewer does not convert Apple Pages, Numbers, or Keynote files, but you may download these submissions onto your computer. You cannot annotate all file types (media files, for example) using the Annotation toolbar.

While there is no limit to the number of files you can attach to Media Albums, you must upload each file individually. Schoology has a size limit of 512 MB per file.
