Question

My students can't find a test in my course. How do I make sure my students can view and access the material?

Answer

There are a number of factors that can affect students' visibility of a test or assessment.

1 — Ensure submissions are enabled.

Students are unable to access assessments or tests/quizzes if submissions are disabled. You can enable submissions from the settings area.

Test/Quiz

  1. Navigate to the test in your course.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Check Submissions are set to Enabled or that the time range selected is current.TQ_Enable_Submissions.png
  4. Click Save Changes.

Assessment

  1. Click the gear icon next to the assessment from the course materials page or click Actions in the upper right within the assessment.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Check Submissions are set to Enabled or that the time range selected is current.

  4. Click Save Changes.

2 — Check the material is published.

Materials that are unpublished in a course are not visible to students but are still visible to the course admin. Unpublished materials appear grayed out and marked Unpublished for course admins. Check the material is published to ensure students can view and access the test.

Test/Quiz

  1. Click the gear icon next to the test from the course materials page.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Check the test is set to published under Options. A green dot indicates the item is published.

To bulk check the published status of course materials:

  1. Click Gradebook from the left menu in your course.
  2. Click the three vertical dots in the upper right of the gradebook and select Bulk Edit from the dropdown menu.
  3. The checkbox under the green dot indicates if the item is published or unpublished. To publish an item, check the box and click Save Changes.

3 — Check if the material is individually assigned.

The course material may be individually assigned to a grading group or student(s) which would prevent other students from accessing the material. Individually assigned materials are only visible to the assigned student(s) from the course materials page.

To check if the material is individually assigned:

  1. Click the gear icon next to the material on the course materials page and select Edit.
  2. Click the Individually Assigned icon under Options.

To restore a deleted item from the recycle bin:

  1. Click Course Options under the course profile picture.
  2. Select Recycle Bin.
  3. Hover over the material you'd like to restore and click the gear that appears to the right of the material.
