Is there any other way to open a link to external site in a new tab (besides the icon?)

    Hi Shelley,

Have you tried using the steps illustrated above to add a link? The end result should be an item within a course that provides a clickable link. Let us know if this solution to does not align with your goals, we are happy to help in any way!

Those are the steps I've been following.  The link created still only opens either in the same tab (taking me out of the Schoology environment) or opens within Schoology (which doesn't always pull up the site properly).  Neither of which opens in a new (separate) tab within the browser without the extra step of clicking on the icon.

    Using Google Chrome (newest update).

    Hi Shelley,

Thanks for providing more details about the issue.

As an alternative, you can try creating a Page and using the Link feature at the top of the editor which creates an inline hyperlink or, the link icon at the bottom of the editor which attaches the link to the bottom of the content you provide within the page. Both links will open in a new tab when clicked.

I hope this solution works for you! Let us know how it goes.

The directions you've provided still require a second step for end users.  Other Schoology sites have a completely new tab open when you click on the link provided (which is an option you can choose when you create the link).

A specific example of this is in a group site that I'm a member of.  Under the resources section, they've linked to several documents saved on Google Drive.  They open in a completely new tab, no other action required. Yet when I try to do this on my course site, it functions like explained above :(

    Hi Shelley,

We definitely want to take a closer look at the issue you are seeing, it doesn't sound like you're seeing the typical behavior for links that we would expect. I've created a ticket based on your post so that we can contact your directly via email and follow up with you.

    Thank you for your patience!
