Why do students see due dates at a different time?

Follow

If students are reporting that upcoming assignments, tests/quizzes, discussions, or events are appearing at a different day or time than the one you'd set for the item, the student's account may be associated with a different timezone.

Check your own Timezone Setting

  1. Navigate to your Account Settings by clicking on the down-facing arrow at the top right of your Schoology account.
  2. Select Settings from the drop-down menu that opens below the arrow.
  3. Check your Timezone setting to make sure that the timezone is appropriately set to your location.
  4. If you must change the timezone, click Save Changes to complete.

Check the user's Timezone Setting

If your Timezone settings look correct, it's possible that the student or parent has a different timezone saved in their account.

  1. Ask the user to login to their Schoology account and navigate to their Account Settings. If possible, we recommend going through these steps next to the student.
  2. Select Settings from the drop-down menu that opens below the arrow.
  3. Check the user's Timezone settings to make sure that the timezone is appropriately set to the same location.
  4. If you must change the timezone, click Save Changes to complete.

Once a timezone is adjusted, the upcoming and calendar items will automatically adjust to the reflect the correct time.

If the issue persists, please reach the Schoology Help Desk by submitting a ticket, including a link to the Schoology profile of a user that experiences the issue.

Can a student change their timezone to submit after the due date? What time will it show me on the results page?  Will it show the submission in the timezone I am in, or the time that the student was in?

    Hi Mrs. Satterwhite,

    Thank you for your question!

Schoology manages any timezone difference between users. The submission time of an assignment or assessment/test will adjust based on your timezone. Therefore, you will see the submission time stamp relative to your timezone and students relative to theirs.

If a student adjusts their timezone, the due date is adjusted based on that change. Therefore, if a student turns in an assignment late, it will be marked late no matter which timezone the student sets for their account.

    I hope this information helps!
